There isn't a world where you let Tucker walk and your offense gets better...
But also not a world where signing a .250 hitter with 1 HR & 1 Dbl after 50 AB's for $60M AAV would have been a good move. The Bregman vs Tucker signing will be a positive for the Cubs.

What's hurt the Cubs has been Happ, Swanson, PCA and Busch's early season production. Plus Suzuki on IL.

Good comeback win. Needed that. Maybe that type of win will get the good mojo going.

Recognizing it’s WAY early in the season, it felt like this one was a “need to have” for the psyche if nothing else.

Is Taillon done? He's looked terrible since his first start of spring training. Nice for the bats to get going some today, hopefully we see more of that this coming week.

We don't really have a better option right now. Brown who has a tendency to get lit up too and Wicks the same and also can't stay healthy. Wiggins needs to spend some time in Iowa and dominate like Horton did before he gets a look in Chicago. Maybe Birdsell gets a look at some point too. But for now you gotta roll with a veteran starter that was pretty good in the 2nd half of the season last year and been good enough to be a backend of the rotation starter the past 2 seasons.

I still worry about Shota being consistent. His last 2 starts have been good after a not so great 1st start of the season. He was good in the 1st half of last season too then was horrible for most of the 2nd half of the season. Rea and Assad are fine swing guys at the end of the rotation but both are not guys you can count on to make it an entire season in the rotation as they aren't durable enough to be sharp once the innings start to pile up, especially Assad had issues with fatigue late in in the 2024 season.

The offense is the issue at the moment. Have to hope the warmer the weather gets the bats warm up too. Our losses are mostly because of the offense:

4-3
2-0
6-4
6-5
4-1
2-0
6-3
10-4 (opening day dud)

Gotta be able to win games where your opponent scores 4 or less.

Looking at the starting pitching match-ups for the upcoming series vs. Phillies and don't particularly love them. Philly not playing good ball yet either though so I guess we shall see.

Honestly I’ll take that start from Taillon in those conditions. 2nd inning got away from him but to get through 6 innings with a manageable deficit (with the wind blowing hard out) took some guts

Probably the hardest stretch of the season coming up. Just hope we don’t get in too big of a hole to climb out of once it lightens up
