••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

I think most Cubs fans at the beginning of the season would've signed up for 12 games above .500 at the break. Pretty crazy rollercoaster to get to this point with two 10 game winning streaks and a 10 game losing streak all before June. Credit to the team and Counsell for navigating through some of the craziest pitching injury crap I've ever seen.

Hopefully will be getting Brown, Cabrera, and Taillon back soon after the break for some rotation depth and Palencia and Milner back in the bullpen. I'd love to see a trade for legit help in both but history indicates it'll likely be similar to last year.

First half MVP is very clearly PCA. His transformation at the plate has been remarkable and I feel way better about him not having a repeat of last year's second half with how his approach has been. The move to him batting leadoff has been fantastic. Offense needs Nico to get back to being Nico, Bregman hopefully starting to come around, and if Busch can get closer to last year's numbers would be a tremendous help as well.

Shout out to Rea and Shota for staying healthy. Rolison and Thornton have been pretty damn solid overall out of the pen.

Really hope Nico is not dealing with some undisclosed nagging injury like he did a few years ago that they finally disclosed he had been playing hurt and needed offseason surgery. He started the season well but has really been in a funk since May.

Our offense just seems to go hot at cold together, it's never just 1 or 2 guys that struggle for prolonged periods its multiple guys and it's frustrating to watch when that happens. Getting the pitching staff healthy will help when playing low scoring games too. Just crazy how many guys have been hurt. We literally have a starting rotation of guys on the IL.

We really need 2025 Nico to show up here pretty quick. He's been awful this year. If Nico was hitting, he'd be ideal to back up PCA in the #2 slot in the order.

Oops by a Cubs reporter. Looks like he thought he was texting and he sent a tweet instead. Trying to send to one of the Coaches and think he was talking about Jed & Carter. Also it should be tweedle and not twinkle.

I've lost all respect for Bruce not knowing tweedle vs twinkle :)

Can't wait to see what happens next.

Just watched Kaps podcast from last week. Gordon Wittenmeyer wants to sell the farm to win now because there may not be a 2027. Kap wants to add controllable pitching.

Even though GW may be right about 27 I think it’s crazy to completely disregard the future.

Kap is also wanting to drain the system but for a different reason.

Personally I think you get the best rentals you can without giving up top prospects. If there is a 27 you have Steele, Brown and Cabrera as a base. I’d resign Rea for cheap depth along side Assad. Wiggins becomes the AAA call up guy. So basically you need two. If Boyd continues like he has since coming off the IL I’d pick up his option. This basically allows you to break the bank for Skubal. Idk what that is but guessing 40ish per. Regardless if you keep Shaw, Wiggins, Ramirez and Ballestareos you can afford Skubal and resign Suzuki to keep the offense at a high level with a formidable rotation.

Skubal Steele Brown Boyd Cabrera
Rea Assad
Wiggins Townsend
Then add a reclamation project or two.

Plus Miller and Palencia gives you two back end options.

Gordon Wittenmeyer is an absolute goofball who loves to hear himself talk. Always an extreme on every topic.

He's one of those that believes he wins a debate if he yells louder than the other person regardless of how stupid his point is. I have zero respect for those people.

Jed is waaaaaaaaaaay to risk averse to go all in on Skubal. It's not happening.
Completely disagree. Having a lot of ML quality pre arb guys allows you to reach for the top. Over 100 mil coming off the books why spend that on the mistakes from the past.

40+ on Skubal
20ish on Suzuki
5 on Kelly
5 on Rea
Either take Boyd’s option or
Add a starter
