Milan Momcilovic tweets "entering NBA draft and portal"

I admittedly have blinders on when it comes to EIU but I have no idea why you'd blow a first round pick on Bennett Stirtz.

Which of my statements below are wrong?

(1) He isn't fast enough to play point guard in the NBA.
(2) He's undersized for every other position in the NBA.
(3) He's a good shooter, not a great shooter (35% this year).
(4) He's a minus defender.
All hype, zero substance. I casually watched 10-15 Iowa games this year. Never saw him play well once. Always seemed to be having a "tough outing" and ended the game like 3-15 from the field with 4 assists and 3 TOs. Still, the announcers kept fawning over him. He'll be a late 1st-round pick and the offending team will immediately send him to the G-League.

Agree 1000%…. Borderline fraud, supported by over zealous suckeye media hype boys !

I am sure there are several comparable NBA players. The only team I watch is the Celtics. Sam Hauser is 6-7 and makes $10mm/yr. 84% of his shots are 3pt. 3 rebounds/game. Below average defender. I think he has an ongoing back injury. Milan could easily fill this role.
I view Milan as a carbon copy Duncan Robinson. He wasn’t drafted, really only above average at one thing, but has carved out a nice career for himself in the NBA. Milan has a turnaround jumper Robinson doesn’t have.

It's amazing to me how little coverage Milan's season gets. You can easily make an argument he had the best 3 point shooting season in college basketball history. He didn't set any historic individual records, and unfortunately the team didn't win any kind of title, so it's kind of gone under the radar. From a volume and efficiency standpoint it seems unmatched. I'm sure there are some advanced metrics that have him at the top.

Sure, but guarded shooting is 10 times more important than how you shoot in warm ups.
Always seems like American born players that have a mock in the late first early second rarely get drafted sooner than predicted because there tends to be a few international surprises.

But we were a top 10 team for most of the season and had some big nationally televised games. This draft is so deep though that there are a lot of 1st round guys getting a bunch of headlines.

First in NCAA history to lead the country in 3PM and 3P% in the same season. Truly insane stuff.

That's why he's been considered the number 1 player in the transfer portal for most of the window. People in the industry know his value.

Little coverage in terms of getting drafted higher or in terms of evaluating his season as a whole?

If it's the former, it's easy to see why. He lacks any sort of athleticism so you're essentially getting a 3 point specialist at the NBA level, a Kyle Korver at best, which is a good player to have but a player with limited upside.
For instance, my Pistons are drafting at 21 and they need 3 point shooting but they already got a guy like this in Chaz Lanier in the 2nd round and I wouldn't take a guy like that at 21. That's where I expect Milan to go, probably early 2nd.

If it's the latter, he absolutely deserves more coverage. 43% on high volume 3 point shooting and came up big come tournament time outside of the Tennessee game unfortunately. He was big time for the most part.

Honestly, if I were a NBA GM, I’d barely even care about these numbers.

How do you shoot in real games under pressure being guarded in front of thousands of screaming fans. That’s all that would matter to me.
Milan will be in great shape.... they don't play defense in the NBA until the playoffs. Milan is already used to playing against good defenses of the Big 12.

I'm always of the opinion if someone claims they don't play defense in the NBA, they don't know ball.

the NBA is a different beast that it creates an illusion that they don't. If you want to see true no defense watch the all-star game but the whole season NBA players play defense.

The pace is way faster, big man can all pass and shoot, 3 second rule in the lane, offenses are spaced out more, and rules favor the offense.

And lastly you are going against the top offensive players in the world. The reason they look like they don't play defense is because the offense is so good but that doesn't mean they don't play defense. If you watch the rotations, switches, closeouts, and playoff adjustments, the defense is incredibly advanced.

Fair enough and I appreciate your insight. To be honest, I prefer college basketball more. I still think Milan will be successful in the NBA.
