Downtown Royals Stadium

still think they should stay but it's clear they're going to keep pushing till they get some funding to allow them to move. This site would be better than Kansas or out in the burbs, so
Downtown baseball stadiums are great. Kaufman has a small tailgating scene for some games that will be missed but overall downtown is better

To me, they're great to visit. Kansas City's parking situation downtown is rough, and last I knew there were very few corporate jobs still there. I'm unconvinced that the streetcar completely changes the game, as it doesn't hold many people when we're talking about a 30,000+ seat stadium. I shouldn't care because I don't live there any more, but I'm trying to think like a local taxpayer, and I'm not sure the juice would be worth the squeeze

Fair points, I also don't live in KC anymore but visit frequently. The original location they teased on 16th and McGee would have been a block from my old apartment. I think they'll figure the parking situation out and maybe add the ability to run more street cars during peak times.

I would hope the stadium would include some parking and would think the city would add more cars, yes

I'm no math major but can you fit a stadium into the Washington Square Park footprint? Assume you'd have to tear down that building and also go into that parking lot toward the tracks?

There is SOOOOOO much parking in downtown KC. The issue is most of it is private and underutilized. That being said, I have never had an issue parking in downtown KC. Its not that bad at all.

100%. The main reason Lucas has pushed this site over others is because it is adjacent to the streetcar line.

With the Chiefs moving across the river, why does the Royals not double down and keep the stadium they have and ask for revenue to build a ball park type village on the spot where Arrowhead is at? Plenty of room for hotels, restaurants and stores. Heck do what the Braves did and build apartments with shopping on the ground floor.

According google maps measurements, tight space for the existing Kaufman field. Just design the stadium around it.

Blue Cross Blue Shield has already moved, so that building will also be torn down. Not the first downtown stadium to be bulit. They will have parking

I'll be at the Crown Center next weekend. I'll do some measurement by foot to check.

It could be, but any worse than downtown? They have the stadium, the most expensive part of the build already there and it's been updated. Tear down Arrowhead after the Chiefs leave and partner with a few hotel chains and restaurants to build a ball park village concept on that ground. They would have plenty of space for multiple hotels and businesses plus parking. You have ease of getting in and out for the in town fans, and the Royals could control the site themselves.

is this a serious question? The area where Kauffman and Arrowhead are currently is absolutely awful in almost every possible way.

Yes, why is it worse than a downtown stadium. How many people want to drive downtown to see a ball game in KC? The Royals could build their own power and light district out where they currently are with hotels and other shops once Arrowhead is gone.

Royals Ballpark Near Crown Center

Article is from last fall, but it provides some renderings of how the ballpark could fit into the space.

I live in Shawnee and I would much rather drive downtown for a game. I love the idea of a downtown stadium. We always end up there after games anyway.

I don't think building their own entertainment district is feasible. They would have to ask for more tax payer money and Jackson Co hasn't exactly been willing to eagerly shell out dough for the Royals...which is one of the reasons they're in the pickle they're in...and why they don't want to bring the Washington Park site to a public vote.

Can’t think of a tighter squeeze than Target Field, but it is a great stadium. So this might be a good thing.
Target is great, went to a ton of games when I had a co-op in Minneapolis (well Chanhassen). Hop on the interstate after work, drive straight into the parking garage and you're in the stadium.
