***2026-27 College Football (non-ISU) Thread***

"[Torres] LSU spending last 6 months: * Lane Kiffin contract: $91 million * Brian Kelly: $54 million buyout * Reported 2026 football roster: $40 million * Matt McMahon buyout: $8 million * Will Wade buyout: $3 million"

Louisiana is one of the poorest states. I really would like to know where Baton Rouge is finding the money for all of this.

Was this really about gold cleats or Cignetti was just finding something to get yell about so he can set the mood? If this player didn’t wear gold cleats I’m sure it would’ve been something else.
I have a friend that’s a big IU fan and he told me it’s just how Cignetti is, if it wasn’t gold cleats he would have invented something else to get fired up about. For instance last year he made a point of telling Mendoza he hadn’t accomplished anything yet and still had a lot to prove, etc.

After last year I imagine Cignetti now thinks one of his main jobs as coach is to keep the kids from getting big heads due to their recent success.

I wish the article would list the players transferring from the ACC/Big12 so I could make up my own mind how much of it is NIL. For instance anyone transferring from Utah or ISU I wouldn’t count as I doubt they would have left if not for the coaching changes.

I know ASU and TCU lost their QBs, which I assume is because of NIL. Must be especially tough for ASU fans as it hasn’t been long since they lost Jayden Daniels and then he won the Heisman the next year.

And then obviously schools like Texas Tech and Miami have been big beneficiaries of the portal, so I’m not sure it’s as simple as the article makes it seem.

But does it matter whether it's money or the opportunity to play on the big stage and compete against the best players?

Most Big12 & ACC schools won't be able to compete money wise, but they need to churn out players who get drafted in the rounds 3-5.

I agree with this. I have been to 6 SEC Championship Games. At one time, it was even better than most BCS / NY6 Bowl Games. Not anymore. Time for it to shut itself on down and prepare for the CFP.
Totally agree. Other than more money from playing an additional game, there is no reason for any conference to continue playing Conference Championship games. With 16-24 team playoff, it serves no purpose. The P2 will each get 5+ teams in the CFP.

Who had the better season in 2025, Virginia, Duke or Miami. If being Conference Champ has meaning, then each Conference can create a regular season schedule to determine a valued Champ.
