Ben Jacobson to Utah State

$1.3M rev share budget at UNI and he'll have over $4M at Utah State while at least doubling his salary.

I get it. He's given UNI absolutely everything and anyone trashing him on the way out is so out of touch it isn't even funny.

Replacement odds from what I've put together in the last few hours--

Tuttle-75%
KG-10%
Brooks McKowen-5%
Craig Smith-5%
Paul Jesperson-5%

It should be a quick search.
Tuttle seems way too logical and could be the choice.
I could have maybe seen Ali if Nico was still at CSU.

There is no such thing as a slam dunk hire at the MM+ level anymore and I'm of the opinion that young and upside need to win out every single time.

I love KG but he's 57 years old.
They’re crazy if they don’t go after Loenser in my opinion.

Surprised but totally understandable. I imagine part of it is getting Tuttle an opportunity now, but I imagine being a mid-major coach is a total grind right now.

I would argue that it's MUCH easier to be a low major coach right now than a true mid.

Utah State has enough $$ to actually keep some of their good players. The last few years had to be extremely frustrating at UNI. Find under the radar guys, spend all that time and effort developing them, then watch them transfer up. At least at Utah State he'll have a chance.

Actually, I would say that UNI has come out fairly well among the mid-major schools when it comes to the NIL era. Yeah, Heise and Bowen Born transferred out and up, but Nate had given UNI four years already (albeit one of them being a redshirt/injury year) and Bowen, sad to say, was a shell of himself as a senior compared to his freshmen/sophomore years, so I wouldn't count as them being truly early departures.

Plus, guys like Tytan Anderson and then Trey Campbell, studs at the MVC level, did stick around for all four years and had good success, particularly Trey.

As a dual fan, this news is still kind of sinking in for me. I had truly expected him to retire at UNI.

If we hire Craig Smith, that would be like hiring Earle Bruce in football.

I work with a former player who claims Hogan is getting promoted (no clue how locked in he is). Also said Hornseth and Bond following Ben to USU

Not surprising Jacobson left, his current salary is much lower than it was in 2020, or even 2022. And in 2025 UNI posted a $3.2M loss. That also makes Hogan or Tuttle more likely than KG, since there current salaries are much lower than KG's, and they could double either of their salaries and save some money.
