'People are flat-out slobs': Jamie Pollard

You're free to spend your money however you please, but Iowa State has extremely cheap season tickets compared to most P4 schools. Our fans have to be willing to spend more if we want to compete at this level. JP isn't digging into fans pockets. He's asking our fans to keep up with the rest of the sport and keep us competitive. It's a choice.
How I choose to spend my money has nothing to do with my brother. My post was entirely about my brother's experience and decision.

People are drunk slobs already, might as well make some money on it. Charge more for the beers in general public than the SEZ & call it good. There's so much money to be made, it's insane to me that he's continuing to choose to not make it.

Still an interesting contradiction to me that selling beer isn't an option because it only brings in maybe $400k while also raising season ticket prices and donation requirements.
Pollard has to charge Cyclone fans another $2.5 million for the beer and his department only gets to keep $400K. Just speaking for myself only, but no thanks, I already pay enough to attend the games.

No one is forcing you to buy a beer.

Also, the numbers he's throwing out there don't match what other programs have seen, so it seems like hyperbole to justify his stubbornness on this.

Pollard is almost certainly low balling the $400k number, but even aside from that, the only people that would pay would be the people that want to buy a beer and also get an objective return for their increased spending. Unlike the increase in ticket prices and donations which applies to everyone that goes to the game and gets you nothing extra in return compared to the previous years.

I get that, but if the hole that the House settlement created in the budget is as bad as it sounds, I don’t think the AD should be turning down any possible funding source. You can only raise donations and ticket prices so much before people just walk away. It will be interesting to see next year if the theory that people didn’t renew because of the Ireland game/trip is true and there’s a bounce back, or if renewal numbers stay stable/continue dropping.

16 ounces of beer for $10-12 is an "objective return"?

I mostly like Jamie but he’s being a stubborn fool.
Did you listen to his remarks? The ISU president and general counsel have to favor this as well. Pollard said he could jump up and down and insist they go along with him on this, but you can only do that a couple times in your career and this particular issue just isn't worth it.

Yeah, the person wants to buy a beer, they exchange their currency for a beer, that is a return on their money spent.
You mean that is a horrible return on their money spent, considering that you can buy a 12 pack for the same amount. But hey, I don't give a crap either way. If folks can't sit through a game without drinking beer, I have no problems with them shelling out ridiculous money.

The numbers he threw out were specifically what he said other programs have seen.
