I agree. Pretty much every player on the roster is invested because they're getting to see the field, even if it's just for a few plays each week. This has a very positive impact on Iowa State's culture. It gets a little hairy at times, but it develops players and it keeps a large number of the roster engaged. If the staff feels you are ready to play, they find a way to play you. I think it is part of the formula to succes at Iowa State
Another part is that they’re not only preparing for “now”, they’re preparing for ‘26.It gets a little hairy at times, but it develops players and it keeps a large number of the roster engaged. That’s the conventional 5 DB’s application.I thought the whole purpose of having so many of them playing was to cut off the short throws and not give up and easy 15 yards on 1st and 20.
Sama averaged 4.7 yds/carry last year Hansen 5.0. We need both of them.Sama averaged 3 yards per carry. He's always trailing Hanson by 1.5 to 2 yards per carry at least.
I am totally thrilled we won, it gives us a huge momentum boost for rest of non conf, and it keeps the playoff dream alive. So don't get me wrong I'm very happy.
I am just not convinced that Sama is Big 12 good. He tries to bounce every single run outside and on so many its 0 to 2 yards and he gets stuffed. He certainly doesn't break tackles. Look at the games last year where Carson Hanson got lion's share of carries and Sama got lion's share of carries - you will see a common thread that the offense moves wayyyy better through Hanson. When Hanson needs a breather I would like to see Dylan Lee or someone else. If Dylan Lee has to sit behind Sama all year he will just transfer.
Yeah, no. He was definitely down shortAll you people complaining, just think of the poor sap who had 50.5 over bet and lost $30,000. Especially that Hansen was in, the wrist being down is not stoppage of play.

There's a chunk of the fan base that thinks Sama is a lot worse than he is, and it's very weird.
“3 knees” was the perfect call to end the game - they apparently weren’t fans in the CPR days!
Some of his play calls are a bit questionable, but he’s only in his second year so that’s to be expected somewhat, but holy Moses did he draw up some great playsThat has Mouse’s kinky fingerprints all over it.
Good point about not writing off a new receiver too early. For those with a short memory, Jayden Higgins had 1 catch for 15 yards in his first game in a Cyclone uniform.Certainly no one should be writing them off this early, but the good news is young receivers stepped up and have huge potential.

Defense is worrying, just because of inconsistencies. I'm hoping they'll right the ship, but it's got to be frustrating when you play lock down, lights out for 10-20 plays, and then a complete head-scratcher nullifies all of it.Defense
- Marcus Neal is a game wrecker. One of the best run defending safeties we have had in ISU modern day football. His tackle for loss on a 4th down was huge
- DL - I thought they played well. Dom Orange was solid, and Ike Ezeguo had a pass tipped. Ike i'm looking for to make more plays the longer this year goes. If there is one concern I have on D, do we have a difference maker who can get sacks this year? That will go a long way in improving our D.
- Carson Van Dinter - I really like this prospect. He was (minus one play) always in position and flying around the ball.
- LB Group - our defense with the 3 / 3 stack works great when our linebackers are as good as we have right now. Kooper Ebel looks so much improved over a year ago and was great. Caleb Bacon and Carson Willich made plays, I like this group a lot. K State is a power run attack and our LB group was stellar.
Oh definitely. I think we misuse Sama. He has shown a tendency to dance rather than hit the hole. He's an east-west back more than a downhill guy. I'd love to see him in a West Coast style offense. Pitches, screens, short passes in the flat, just get him the ball in the open field and let him dance. It's easy to say our OL "blocked better" in the second half, and while there is probably some truth to that, I think the combo of making adjustments at halftime and leaning more on Hansen played a huge part. He just seems to follow blocks and attack the hole so much better than Sama does.
I don't think ESPN loved any part of Iowa State winning.I’m guessing ESPN execs were not happy with the first half, but loved the second!
I keep seeing people thinking we’re going to have a tough time against South Dakota.. Looking forward to some adjustments against South Dakota.
