*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Did I hear Boog or JD correctly during yesterday's game that Luke Little's fastball velocity is down from 96/97 mph in 2024 to 93mph this season? That's concerning. Not sure if that is because his pitches have so much horizontal path. Feel like his pitch trajectory makes it tough for the Ump to give him borderline strike/ball calls.

Felt like Little did an OK job yesterday, but his pitching motion still seems like a hot mess. I would have expected to see some improvement after spending the last 4 months at Iowa.

Good win, some good stuff happened there. Pull this one out tonight and flip this momentum maybe.

Cubs pretty much had to have this one this afternoon with Boyd facing Patrick.

Brewers have Woodruff going tonight so will probably be a tougher go.

That's exactly how Caissie looked each time I've seen him play in Des Moines this year. Dude sprays line drives to all fields, with just enough loft to get a decent number of homers. If he can keep the K rate down like he's done better at this year, he'll be a major league starting outfielder. And yes, it's way too early to get on that train, but if he looks solid in his opportunities the rest of the way, I think it's a given you can wave bye-bye to Tucker. Use the "Tucker money" on a true, #1 starting pitcher instead. Would have enough left over for a decent bullpen guy as a bonus.

Here's the free agent pitching class. I'm not sure there is a true #1 available this year, maybe Cease but we know Tommy isn't committing that much money pre-lockout. You're going to get Alex Cobb and a pillow contract for Merrill Kelly and like it.

Dylan Cease, Zac Gallen, Framber Valdez, Chris Sale (club option), Michael King (mutual option), Jack Flaherty (opt-out), Justin Verlander, Jordan Montgomery, Shane Bieber (player option), Shota Imanaga (club option/player option), Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Brandon Woodruff (mutual option), Zach Eflin, Kodai Senga (opt-out), Ranger Suárez, Chris Bassitt, Walker Buehler (mutual option), Nestor Cortes, Jon Gray, Merrill Kelly, Frankie Montas (opt-out), Dustin May, Tyler Mahle, Freddy Peralta (club option), Nick Martinez, Marcus Stroman (vesting option), Lucas Giolito (club option), Aaron Civale, Kenta Maeda, Charlie Morton, Michael Lorenzen (mutual option), Germán Márquez, José Urquidy (club option), Tyler Anderson, Andrew Heaney, Kyle Hendricks, Steven Matz, Miles Mikolas, Chris Paddack, Erick Fedde, Alex Cobb, Tomoyuki Sugano, Jose Quintana (mutual option), Griffin Canning, Michael Soroka, Martín Pérez (mutual option), Colin Rea (club option), Cal Quantrill, Kyle Hart (club option), John Means (club option), Patrick Corbin, Kyle Gibson

Cease, Valdez, Peralta and Woodruff look like the top 4. Otherwise a whole bunch of mid to back-end rotation options, or over-the-hill vets.

Getting a #1 doesn't have to be via FA of course, they could always trade for one as an alternative. If it's an established guy, he likely makes FA-level money already, so the original argument still holds.

I guess in the end it's just that I'm not that wild about Tucker, his career numbers notwithstanding. He looks so nonchalant and indifferent out there, it just rubs me the wrong way for someone that's supposed to be "The Man" on this team. Same thing with Counsell, I didn't like him as a player, I didn't like him managing Milwaukee, I don't like him now.

He has such quick hands. Really a perfect swing.

Had tickets for the rainout. So glad they called it early! Not just because I didn't want to sit through a long delay, getting soaked. But also because I think after getting their asses kicked in the afternoon, they weren't going bounce back for the night game.

Moving Boyd to the early game today showed just how badly they needed that win. It was a fun one to be at, even surrounded by Brewer fans! There's no way there were 32,000 in attendance. Cassie was great, both at the plate and in the field.
