DEPTH CHART IS OUT!

The fact they were trying out Jeremiah Cooper at CB tells you the coaches are a bit concerned at the other CB spot and don’t feel like they have a great solution there.
Actually, I think it tells you they recognize that he doesn’t exactly have NFL safety size, and positional flexibility is a huge asset for the draft.

Also for adjusting defensive schemes as the offense lines up.
Not at the RS Fr, but a true Fr on the OL & @ NG - that says something
One, it says they’re that good.

Two, they used the two DT chart, so Moore is actually #3 or so. Gilbert is primarily an end.

Three…Ikakoula is a beast. Powerful and mobile.

Almost all of the interior D-linemen we bring in play as true freshmen. Moore is gonna be a good one.

The o-lineman out of Utah is supposedly a great run blocker. That's something we really need at RG.

I'm surprised David Coffee didn't make the two-deep.
This.

And going by coaches comments—or lack thereof—this week, I’m now pretty sure that Coffey got hurt and will be on the injury list. Perhaps even out for the season.

Two teams had two 1000 yd guys I believe. Us and Ohio State. It’s not that common

For years some CFers have clamored for ISU to run the same 75 yard bubble screen like tOSU because 'see how easy it is?' so hopefully that starts to finally happen just cuz.

I mean is there any other way to debate this fact a full week before they play a snap? Guess I was hoping that someone impressed coaches enough to have locked up one of the spots over anyone else. Hoping at least one of Sowell, Overby, or Townsend can be a X factor for this team. (Certainly won't live up to the seasons Higgins & Noel just had).
You’re looking at it the wrong direction.

They’ve all impressed the coaches.

Also, that whole 1000 yard thing? Math tells me that to break it playing 15 games, you only need to average 66ypg.

66.6 for the wisecrackers.

If we win, I'll say, what a great way to start the season. If we lose, I'll say, we should have played Arkansas State first lol.

Sowell is the best WR on the team and is more athletic than Higgins, and Xavier Townsend might be the best athlete Campbell has ever had at ISU on the offensive side of the ball. Does that help ease any concern you might have? I think you're really letting this get to you when you shouldn't. It's Monday of game week where your Iowa State Cyclones are going to be the marquee game to open up the 2025 college football season. Campbell isn't going to reveal his hand, especially to a conference opponent, in week 0. Take a step away, close your eyes, and take some deep breaths for a minute.
Oh really? Link? That's quite the statement.

Best athlete might not be accurate, but most electric, he potentially is.
In my…(cough)…hard won maturity, I try to to argue every single point nowadays. I’d let this one go for a while.

But I think some wires got crossed somewhere.

The best athlete of the Campbell era on defense would be Darien Porter.

The best one on offense would be Kene. With Breece among the contenders for second.

Those are supported by both NFL testing numbers, and HS track numbers—illustrating that the latter can help determine the former.

I suspect Townsend will wind up being close to Noel’s Combine testing numbers.

The real contender for “best athlete of the CMC era on offense” would clearly then be Dom Overby who exceeded Porter’s HS track numbers, and rivaled Kene’s.

…and did surprisingly well in a bunch of other odd events, too, like shot, discus and javelin, iirc.

And he’s doing that at almost 6’5”.

But you never gave a fact. You gave an opinion based on no data. It’s ok, people have said worse things on here. We just disagree with you without having seen many of them play.

Also, this is coming from a guy that does have some concerns about the wr room until proven otherwise.

I thought ........

Myles Mendeszoon...#6 would see some time this year...Always want to hit and hit hard.....hustler......I enjoy watching him.....

Nothing says he won’t see time. He’s just not in the top two. The DL is really deep.

He and frosh Trey Verdon, I expect to both see time this season.

Verdon, they’re using words like “wow”, and comparing him to Will McDonald. That’s not nothing.

That's not some bold statement. You mean we lost two day two NFL draft picks from the WR room and we're not going to immediately replace them with someone new having a top 10 receiving season in school history? Oooh what a shocker that'd be :jimlad:

Don't need to have a Higgins/Noel in order to have a deep WR room and productive passing game.

not that it matters that much, but some of those guys only played 11 game seasons. No bowl game, or championship game.

Verdon got high praises from teammates in spring practices. Not sure how much time he will see this year, but he will be a starter before long.

I am by no means comparing Jeremiah Cooper to Antoine Winfield Jr but AW Jr is 5’9” and 203.

I just don’t see CMC getting Cooper reps at CB to prepare him for the NFL Draft. To “make him the best version of himself”, yes.

I do think the scheme flexibility is probable while also improving Cooper’s cover skills as a major factor on the back end of our defense, which at times were tested in 2024.

It was discussed in other threads reasons for 2024 to be not a major step up for him from his 2023.
