DEPTH CHART IS OUT!

I think fans are putting way too much stock in that. The number is more about character than ability. It's certainly not a bad thing, but I don't think they just give it to the best DL
I think it is both, otherwise I am sure a number of players who weren't starters would win the award every now and again. No, it has always been a massive contributor to our defense who wears the number.

I think WRs will sort itself out after a few games. But probably a lot more guys playing this year than last. The fact they were trying out Jeremiah Cooper at CB tells you the coaches are a bit concerned at the other CB spot and don’t feel like they have a great solution there.
I take it more as Cooper offers experienced depth at CB if injuries occur.

The biggest surprises to me are:

Beau Goodwin getting an OR at the starting spot for SLB. Did not see that coming.

Quentin Taylor Jr. getting an OR for the CB spot. Heard a lot about Tre bell but not much on him.

Here's the thing about the "ORs"

The order ABSOLUTELY matters. ISU has a team full of 105 alpha dogs. The staff knows that the public will read into whatever they put out, AND THE PLAYERS WILL EVEN MORE SO.

Every player will look at the top guy and say "That's the guy". The staff knows this.

To me, the "ORs" mean "But don't be surprised to see"
Melting down over a week zero depth chart is a bold move

Not at the RS Fr, but a true Fr on the OL & @ NG - that says something
Williams and Blum have mentioned both of those guys on podcasts as being young guys that are really popping. The freshman OL was being mentioned as likely to be in the two-deep by mid-season.

If you click on the image it shows he's the place kicker
Good call, I see Flora is in the rotation for returns. He could have a cool story to his football career if he keeps this up. He started as a walk-on right?

That stood out to me - there are 3 true Freshmen on the depth chart - QB, RG & NG. Those are not the typical true freshmen positions. As others have said, the depth chart is largely meaningless - but any true FR that is listed is worth noting, it's a high honor.

to me, I'm not shocked at all....Abu did struggle last year and Hansen was pretty much RB1 through more than half of the season last year
Abu seemed to improve at hitting the hole and not bouncing every play late in the season. I expect him to be improved this year. Hopefully we have two stud running backs to throw at teams.

Sama has more potential than Hansen, but he can't figure out how to read the blocks. If he does, he can overtake the top spot.

Sama has had like 3 good games as a Cyclone, and the crazy snow globe game at KSU.

In all fairness, same with Hansen. But i'm not sure why people anoint Sama as the next Troy Davis or Breece Hall.

Lol actually.... it's more likely the staff tells the players to completely disregard depth charts as it's for the media and fans....versus using it as a motivational tactic.
