Cost of caddie varied from course to course but usually a $20-30 tip for a single bag. Ballybunion Old Course might be hard to get on but Cashen Course is also great. Tralee and Waterville get less traffic- but still very popular. A lot of singles showed up everyday to nab any open spots.

Wife and are last minute thinking of booking a flight and heading to the game. Maybe coming in 5-7 days ahead. Are we nuts to do this so last minute as far as nice hotels/ car rental etc. Will the town simply be overbooked in general yard think?
No i dont think its nuts at all, there is plenty of nice hotels in dublin, if the city hotels are hard to find theyre plenty of good hotels just outside the city centre with easy access to the city, wether your driving, getting a bus, taxi or train. Its well worth a visit and the city will definitely be bustling in the week leading up the game. Id say go for it and come enjoy a great week in a great city and country

This was on the news nonstop when we were visiting in May. Like... every radio station had it on. And so did the nightly news. HA!
The for the confirmation it may be doable. If we would like to reasonably walk to several local pubs and other attractions, is there a certain area we should focus on in Dublin?
Are there enough short day trips say within an hour or so to enjoy for 4-5 days leading up to game?
Train from Dublin crosses the country to Galway (1 example) in 2.5 hours. Yes roundtrip is half the day... but you get the idea that you could very easily get the morning train... be in Galway most of the day with lunch and head back to Dublin for a late dinner. And there are any number of other destinations you could go to with similar or shorter spans.
I imagine you'll hear (like every other major station in a European city) that the immediate area around the station is unsafe. I liken Europeans talking about their major train stations in the same way we talk about our Greyhound stations. Just one of those places you keep your head extra swivel-ly.
For what it's worth, this is a map from delivery drivers about areas to avoid delivering to. Seems like the walk from the stadium to the station should be fine with a couple easy pockets to avoid.

There is also a tram from right outside the stadium to Connolly Station which might be more appetizing.
That's really good to know. Was considering flying into Galway from US and out of Dublin after game, to cross the country in a car rental for 3 or 4 days. But this train might take care of that with less hassles. Assume you can Thx!
Enjoy- that first tee with the cemetery on the right is just a fun tee shot. If the wind is from the sea (left)- aim way left! If you're walking without a caddie you might want to reserve a pull or electric trolley. They sell out.
I went to Ireland for a wedding and just got back yesterday. Unfortunately, I did not have enough vacation left to stay longer. Friends of ours who were also there visited Waterford Crystal and got to see the game trophy and other items for the game being made. Just wanted to share a few pics.
