Even at a conservative estimate of $1 mil in profit - that’s equivalent to 10,000 Cyclone Club memberships at the entry $100 level.
If that happened there’d be a parade down University.
How many beers did you have spilled on you from all the fall down drunks?
You know, all those drunks who can’t go 3 1/2 hours without a beer.
There was a group of people sitting in front of us that were crushing quite a few beers during the game. The beer vendor kept coming back to them over and over. But in my observation, these people were not spilling beer or being too obnoxious or anything. They were just enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon at the ballpark, and if they want to spend $13 per beer or whatever it was, good for them.
My group wasn’t drinking alcohol, but we did have soda, hot dogs, and ice cream. I was happy with the efficiency of the concession stands, and overall it was a good experience at Busch Stadium.
You do understand that people can go to a ball game and have a few beers and not be falling down drunk when you leave. We have people getting drunk now at the games and we do not sell alcohol to the general public. Basically every stadium around us is selling alcohol to the general public, the university needs money, and refuses to tap into a very easy source of income, selling alcohol.
I was referring to your commit that people cannot sit and watch for 3 hours without a beer. If I mischaracterized your commit, sorry about that. There is no reason that ISU does not sell alcohol to the general fan.
That's another issue. You had good service at Busch Stadium but we can barely function selling hotdogs. Until our concessions are better, I think adding beer now would be a trainwreck.
This is why I don't give a damn. If I want alcohol I just bring it in. I don't think the security staff even tries to enforce it any more as long as you aren't just blatantly carrying it around in the open, and even if you do get caught they just make you dump it out. The people who sit in front of us bring in whatever jello shots they don't use at their tailgate and give them to the people sitting around them.

Yeah, I'm not rabid about the issue either way. But I do occasionally attend MN United games and I will often have a single beer at those game. I have actually had 2 a time or two but I don't go to get wasted. I want to see the game and the emerald money tree borers got my money tree so I have to watch how many $15 beers I buy.
100%. I'm very pro alcohol, and every little bit does help. There are those out there, however, who think it would solve every financial problem ISU athletics is facing, and it just wouldn't. Those unrealistic people are the only ones I take issue with.
I agree as my wife and daughter sit there for the non alcohol perks (yes I dont sit with my wife at games). Pretty sure Sukup has half the 1st row seats too.
Aren't all the concession stands at JTS and Hilton being manned by groups that get paid for the day, and it's a new group every time? At Busch stadium and others, they have people hired to the job, and with anything they get better as the season goes along. Not true when it's new people serving it up on a game by game basis.
This is very true. My brother is the biggest football fan you will ever meet. He and his wife fully planned to give up their Section E seats and move into the SEZ sometime in the next few years. However his wife has had health issues and was having a hard time walking from the lots as well as issues climbing the stairs. To my surprise he told me after last season that it was all getting to be too much and they didn't renew their tickets this year - not moving to the SEZ; just flat out cancelled their tickets. I was floored.
Her health issues were just one problem. The rising costs and everything else contributed as well. This is a guy who still goes back to visit his high school's current football team from time to time and he graduated from there almost 50 years ago.

How much of the issue of our concessions being a trainwreck is associated with the groups working the stand being a fundraising effort for some youth group rather than a dedicated hospitality/food service team managing the concessions?
Most of it I would guess, the university saves money by given the group money, to work security or ticket taking in the stands, or in concessions booth, cheaper than hiring folks and paying them by the hour. Not a bad idea, but the people working its a one and done deal, so they never really get good at what they are doing.
I’ve been to at least 50 games in Jack Trice and the only I didn’t sneak alcohol into was the ‘21 Iowa game where it was so hot I was avoiding alcohol to prevent severe dehydration
We don't have a corner on the market of using volunteer groups. I knew many venues up here in the Twin Cities did it and a quick Google search tells me that at the very least Target Field, US Bank Stadium, Huntington Bank Stadium, Target Center, and Allianz Field all use volunteer groups to staff concession stands. The secret is to give them training and supervision which I'm not sure is adequately happening at JTS.
