State Fair Food Draft on Bigger Than 12

They Gyro stand between Riley Stage and the ag building doesn't get enough love.

There is a nondescript burger place between Riley Stage and the varied industries building that is good if you are on a tight budget.

Bucket of cookies should be no lower than #2 on any list

Gotta get the Turkey leg from the Turkey producers stand IMO. They seem to cook it the best, the other stands I have tried they are usually overdone. I will agree with you though as I did have a bad experience with a turkey leg I bought at the 2001 Independence bowl. When we got back to the hotel after the game pretty sure I had food poisoning as I puked all night and it wasn't from drinking beer as I maybe had 1 or 2 the whole day.
 
Had 3 out of 4 from Brends list yesterday,0 from Dukes. Plus a gizmo, a gyro, a chocolate ice cream cone, several beers and a hard boiled egg on a stick.

Hard boiled egg on a stick probably should be on a top 5 list especially since they are free! Gizmo and gyro also good staples.

I used to spend a whole week on the fairgrounds in HS when we showed cattle. Stayed at the Youth Inn for like $5 a night as it beat driving an hour 1 way from home every day. Would get my fill of fair foods and they didn't have nearly as many options in the late 90's as they do today so by end of the week had some things more than once already and would find someone to go off the fairgrounds with for an evening and try to find something different for supper for a change. Can't imagine having that problem now when they add like 50+ new foods a year now and a lot more vendors that there weren't back then too.
 
This isn't a fair (ha) comparison. Duke was clearly drafting what he knows, which is Texas State Fair food. And Brend is clearly drafting Iowa State Fair food. It's apples to oranges. Jake's top pick, for instance, probably wasn't even on Duke's radar at all.

I was informed this morning that the cookies might be different this year than in years past and quality has taken a hit. I will be extremely disappointed if this is true.

Had a bucket yesterday and the top ones were warm and delicious but towards the middle we started noticing they weren’t as good. Still very edible but seemed like a drop off from years past.

Duke took foods you can get at a fair that aren’t really fair foods.

Brend took foods heavily associated with a fair.

I agree to a point.

Duke picked fried oreos and tornado potatoes, which are the most inarguably fair foods on either list.

And, on the flip side, cheese curds don't associate heavily with fairs to me, but that's probably a product of growing up in Wisconsin. And a mediocre pork chop on a stick is only a fair food because of the stick.

I don’t disagree with any of that. I’m in NEIA and cheese curds are just normal food

Brend deserves the same level of criticism as Duke because neither of them picked a turkey leg.

What are the most iconic images from the fair? The Big Boar and people walking around with turkey legs!
 
Whatever happened to all the rootbeer stands? Back in the day if you didn't get a bee in your rootbeer, you weren't at the right rootbeer stand.
