Wizards sign Gilbert

I haven’t been tracking NBA moves much, but I thought he was a weird fit in Washington. The Smart buyout suddenly makes him more valuable there.

I watched most of the last Washington game. Didn't get to really see Gilbert's ability to be a lock down defender as they played zone most of the time.

The Smart buyout really has no impact. Washington doesn't, and never was going to, have real room for him. They had to release/buyout three guys (Smart, Richaun Holmes, and Blake Wesley) who are experienced NBA guys just to get down to the 15 man roster limit and already have signed guys to all three of their two-way spots.

He might have been thinking it was one of his better options to show something during summer league however. Keshon doesn't look like a guy who teams will think is worth a two-way right now. He definitely could get on a g-league squad though and see if he can play his way to that level. That or go the Europe route.

Side note... Will we ever hear the real story on what happened with Keshon this last spring?

It's been talked about a few times on Williams and Blum. The NIL rumor was BS and he reached out to Blum to try and communicate out and set the record straight. He was just hurt and was frustrated that fans thought he was just begging for more money.

It was discussed on a fairly recent W&B, not sure which one. Rather that gossip here, I'll just suggest folks look for the episode and listen. It was within the last couple months I think.

I'll never believe that he was so "injured" that he couldn't have been there to help in an emergency situation, or just to simply be there on the bench for his teammates. Both parties just trying to take the high road. It's over and done with now, but the injury story will always be B.S. to me.

What do you think it was? Being upset with CuJo being too much a focus of the offense?

The NIL money thing made more sense than anything else I heard. Otherwise he would have at least traveled with the team he helped get to the tourny. So maybe it wasn't NIL but something happened other than just being injured is my opinion

Or he was just hurt and wanted to focus on recovery. Not everything has to be some big conspiracy.

There is not a single aspect his recovery that could not have been done along with the team. It is almost universally unheard of for an injured player - particularly one who poured his blood, sweat, and tears into a program for 2 years - NOT to travel with his teams for the freaking NCAA tournament. A team that was a 3 seed largely because of said player.

So no, not a conspiracy. Just a really f*cked up situation. And him not traveling with the team - regardless if the decision was mutual - did not make the situation any less f*cked up and less of a 'distraction'.

Not only think they know everything, but feel the need to express those thoughts/opinions & drag a former player through the mud online. Lot of benefit to that, I suppose?
Plenty of fans have shown continued support of Keshon. As they should, dude played his heart out for Iowa State for 2 years.

Almost universally unheard of? How almost?

that's what I was thinking. it's more unheard of that when someone is injured and declares their intention to go pro (which Keshon did) that they stick around the team instead of transferring their focus to doing the things that get them ready to be a pro - and in Keshon's case, getting healthy.

it's just the end of the year didn't end up as we had all hoped (considering both Gilbert and Lipsey were injured) and Keshon has been the convenient scapegoat for everything that went wrong at the end of last year.

Did you watch him play the 2nd half of last season? He was shell of himself and was visibly frustrated every single game when he was unable to do the things he had previously been able to do.
