Palencia’s earned it IMO. Ok with adding a piece but he deserves the 9thI don't see a world where you can go away from Palencia unless you end up trading for an elite, established guy
The Shaw pick off was clearly a balk. I saw Pedro break it down said it was the move he got away with his whole career. Basically the knee broke before he was off the rubber. Was at the game tonight with my 3 boys, good times.
I said earlier in this thread I hate to send McGuire down, and I still think that. But man Carson Kelly has good at bats, so yeah, it’s a shame if McGuire has to go down, but it’s very clear we need Carson in the lineup.
Palancia, man that guy has been awesome since that bad outing, really looks like he turned a corner. Dude is unhittable right now.
We gotta clean up this base running, I don’t know what’s going on at third, or at first for that matter, but these guys gotta wake up. Sending Kelly on that wild pitch was insane.
Swanson is such a dumb ass when it comes to situational hitting. First pitch swinging with PCA at first.
Unpopular take….Nico needs to bat lead off. i would love to trade Happ if he would accept a trade, but he has a no trade clause, and he’s never going to accept a trade. And the cubs love his contract anyway. No contender would trade you a pitcher for him anyway. But hes not a lead off hitter, he strikes out too much, he doesn’t hit for average, you’re not going to sign him again anyway. He should be batting 7th or 8th in a contender lineup.
Boyd is so good, just great control.
I’d like one more bullpen piece but Palencia has certainly proved it does not need to be a 9th inning guy.
How about we get an SP today so we aren’t rolling out our two worst pitchers to open the Cardinals series
Takes two to tango. Every insider has basically said Jed would love to make a move earlier than the deadline. It's what I can't quite figure out about Jed's strategy. I believe I read something yesterday that said they are likely to wait until the last minute again at the deadline. Our SP rotation is clearly untenable. Why are we content forfeiting 2 out of every 5 games? You clearly have all the other pieces in place-- make a damn move.
Hoerner is a perfect nine hole hitter. Good contact little power good speed low walk rate. I think when Happ leaves Shaw could develop into a good lead off. Pete is also a guy that could excel there with Tucker and Suzuki behind him.Was at the game tonight with my 3 boys, good times.

I love how Willson didn’t phase him one bitI’d like one more bullpen piece but Palencia has certainly proved it does not need to be a 9th inning guy.

I'm pretty sure this was noted earlier in the thread, but McGuire has no options available. He'd have to clear waivers first, and if he clears waivers he can reject an outright assignment to Iowa and elect free agency instead. I think his contract is guaranteed so he'd continue to receive his major league salary no matter what.I said earlier in this thread I hate to send McGuire down, and I still think that. Being a left-handed hitter (especially as a catcher) might make his value slightly higher as well.I know people in the know have said it's really unlikely he'd clear waivers. Lots of teams looking for good backup catching.

Palencia has been terrific, even better than Adbert was when he was at his best at times the last couple years. Pomeranz, Keller, Thielbar and Flexen, where would the Cubs be w/o those guys, too? Fantastic job. What the Cubs bullpen needs then is one reliable veteran setup guy for Palencia, an 8th inning man. That guy SHOULD be Hodge or Pressley, but neither inspires much confidence. Both are fine for back-of-the-bullpen roles, but not 8th inning.I’d like one more bullpen piece but Palencia has certainly proved it does not need to be a 9th inning guy.
