The schedule for the 2025 Players Era Tournament is set and Iowa State will be tested. Check out who they are playing and the format in Las Vegas.

I would love for someone to break down how this 'tournament' actually works. It says we'd have to go 2-0 to possibly play for a championship, which makes sense. However, it seems like something else will need to be taken into account as well. It seems likely that more than 2 teams will be 2-0.

Anyone able to provide some clarity?

I'm going to just assume championship participants are chosen by a selection committee made up of athletic directors, TV execs, and out of touch retired coaches.

My best guess is 18 teams in six groups of three. Play the two others in your group. Finish first, second, or third. Play the same place from another group. So there will be three “champions” once the format plays out.

This seems dumb. Especially with so much money on the line. The quality of your opponents and the style they play will decide who’s in the championship rather than who’s the better team.
Yeah, seems arbitrary.

I'd make Players Era a 16-team field, two sites, 8 teams each, traditional bracket format.

Maybe one could be in Las Vegas and one in Maui (since Maui Invitational might die on the vine anyway in the NIL era).

Sure there's no "overall champ," but that seems like less of a problem than the tiebreaker for an 18-team mega tournament.

Just an idea.

I'm predicting there will be 16 teams with a 1-1 record one team without a win and one team with a 2-0 record. Somehow the 2-0 team will not be selected for the Championship game because "eye test".

we gonna "secret scrimmage" them too? I figured that was replaced by the "non-secret scrimmage"

You are correct that the secret scrimmages are now exhibitions. But between last year’s scrimmage, this year’s exhibition, and now the MTE, that’s… a lot.

Now, will I still go to Omaha for the exhibition? Heck yeah.

I think seeing them 3 times in 13 months was more in reference to our game and the exhibitions this year and next.
