A lot of these come down to which film has been seen more often or which villain is more famous.

Like I have no idea who Max Cady is, for example.

If I did that, I hardly ever vote in these. I'd rather be engaged in these, even as an uninformed youth (by CF standards), than not at all.

Everybody has their own standards of voting, which is cool. I happen to agree with you on both of your examples, but as has been pointed out, other voters are going with a "villain" that they can relate to in real life as the one worthy of their vote. There are no right or wrongs, it's everyone's own preference.
