2025 NCAA Softball Tournament

I did not understand how the umpire interference played into all that, did you?

The broadcast made it sound like the reason UT challenged the batter interference was because the umpire interference had already occurred. Almost like if the umpire interference hadn't occurred, it would've changed the whole situation.
I was confused as well. If there is umpire interference, the ball is presumably dead hence the runner going back to first. But all sports have dumb rules and maybe this is one of them

That would have been a really bad way to lose a game, especially since the pitch wasn't strike to begin with.

I'm not a fan of make-up calls, but I wouldn't have been heartbroken if that call had just ended the game. That interference call at second base that led to the only TTU run was freaking awful. TTU should have never had the lead.

Seems hard to believe that a $1M softball pitcher who has such control of her normal pitch selections would not be capable of throwing 4 soft tossed balls to a point 2 feet outside of home plate. That's a rough way to lose a game and likely the series.

I blame that on the catcher for not stepping farther away from the plate.

Okay so I enjoyed watching the game last night, but is every call reviewable/challengeable? Like there’s no penalty for challenging and being wrong?

If throwing the ball directly over home plate was a decision made by anyone other than the coaching staff, then someone should have called timeout and coached them away from it because where those balls were crossing the plate was too meaty for the Texas batter to not attempt exactly what she did.

My dad taught us that if the pitcher intentionally walked you and got fairly close to the plate swing at it.

Especially down by a run with one more at bat left. Can't say that it was predictable that she would hit a two run single, but very plausible that she would take a swing and try on hitable "walk" pitches.

It wasn’t awful at all. It was the correct call by the rule book.

The rule is what needs to be changed.

Tech loads the bases again tonight in the 1st inning (this time with 1 out) and get nothing again.

The rule is awful then because any common sense says that was an obvious throw out. Needs to be changed ASAP.

Just flipped to this game during NBA game commercial and see both Mahomes being interviewed. Wondered if I had the right channel at first.
PS, go Tech.

Very standup of Mahomes to be there. He is a bazillionaire and could have been courtside at the NBA Finals just because he can, but he went to the softball instead. Classy move. Showed up when he said he would.
