Not sure why Glasco is challenging, the runner wasn’t even trying for second. Even if they rule obstruction, the umpire would still have a judgement call before awarding an extra bag.

The rule is awful then because any common sense says that was an obvious throw out. Needs to be changed ASAP.

The problem is her left foot was blocking the bag before the ball arrived. Even though outside was the obvious place the runner should slide, and that is exactly where she did slide, even though the runner was out by steps, the fielder’s foot was in the wrong spot while the fielder didn’t have the ball yet.

The rule absolutely needs to be looked at before next season.


Edit: also, even with a rule change, I watched enough softball this year (my daughter’s senior year) to know that I don’t trust umpires to rule correctly anyway. I saw obstruction bungled several times. Big East umpires were downright terrible. They weren’t much better during non-conference either.
