*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Losing this game 1-0 when you had the bases loaded with nobody out in the first is ******* brutal.

I’m concerned the book is very much out on PCA now and he needs to adjust better.

Let's just say he needs to stop chasing. Kind of reminds me of Baez back in the day.....awesome when he connects, but awful when he waives at pitches way out of the zone. Hopefully he'll get it fixed, as he's a phenomenal talent.

Swanson is more like Baez

You risk injury sliding head first into home. Broken fingers, wrist, shoulders, concussion. Smart decision is feet first. They actually told Seiya to stop sliding head first into second for that very reason.
I know I am late to the party on this discussion but I think a lot of guys are sliding head first into home because of the opportunity the relatively new blocking the plate rules afford. When catchers can't camp out in front of the dish they are often not in as good of position to cover as wide to both sides of the plate so with a head first slide guys can slide well wide of the plate to either side and reach out to the plate avoiding tags from a catcher not right in front of the plate. I think a lot of it is an unforeseen result of the rule change.

Pete has been worth 3.7 WAR and is a top 2 MVP candidate at the moment, in a season where any reasonable person would have taken replacement level offense to go with his absurd baserunning and defense.

Does he have stuff to work on? Sure. Will he continue to be an MVP candidate? Idk. But I'm going to enjoy it even if he swings at some pitches out of the zone.

Right, guy barely has 1.3 years of major league service and looks like and MVP and 40/40 candidate very soon and people are melting down because he's struggling to hit lefties with nasty sliders.

The problem is pitchers are starting to find his holes. Leading the league in swing rate isn’t a good thing. If he can develop a good batter’s eye honestly he’d be better than Tucker. I know some will scoff but if he stops chasing their bats will be very similar and PCA is better than anyone with the other tools.

Yeah, he has stuff to work on. It's a game of adjustments and we'll see what he does. But he's on pace to have a top 5 Cubs season of all time...

Don’t get me wrong, this has been him looking terrible at the plate very recently. I don’t mean to take anything away from how good the rest of his season has been, I just don’t want it to collapse.
