Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

I don't think I had been in a WalMart in maybe 10 years until last weekend when we were out of town and needed some medicine. Have they dramatically increased the number of shelves? It just seemed packed to the gills with tons of just crap.

@drmwevr08 you can dumb my post all you want, but there's a reason there's a website for these folks. WalMart and the halls of a high school are the only two places I've seen it acceptable to wear your pajamas outside of bedtime hours.

Seriously? Cue the old man yelling at clouds meme but I'd wager 1/3 of the general population are wearing pajama pants while in public.

Similar, we'd shop for whatever we needed whereever the best price was that week... in CR/Marion back in my day we had Hy-Vee and Sunmart (formerly Me Too) and Econofoods, then there were a couple of independent stores like Barlow's and another one that I can't remember the name of, it was on Blairs Ferry Road just off the intersection with 1st/7th ave across from Thomas Park. I can't remember if Aldi's was a thing back in the 70s/80s, but it was definitely before Walmarts were around.
Warehouse Market? Had the pens/crayons where you wrote the price of what you were buying on the item itself?

From "encyclopedia Dubuque"
WAREHOUSE MARKET. For a monthly fee, shoppers were told they would receive less expensive prices on food items. Upon entering the store, customers chose a black pen for marking the prices on items they wanted and a large flat wooden cart for their groceries. At the end of the month, coupons were received for free or greatly reduced items in the store.

The 1970 through 1985 Dubuque City Directory listed 190 John F. Kennedy Road.

Don't forget PharMor!

Sometimes when I have trouble falling asleep, I try to walk the halls of Sunmart/Econofoods from my memory.

I don't understand the Aldi love. Don't go there with a shopping list, they won't have everything. It's more vibes shopping based on their selection. They'll have a ping pong table or an inflatable projector screen but not limes.

Go there enough and you know what they have and what they don't. The prices are absolutely worth a trip to another store to pick up loose ends when you have a 800-1000 per month grocery bill like ours. We're typically making a trip to another store for meat anyways (fareway/sams and to a lesser extent HyVee).

The aisle of shame! Sometimes you need to buy Hey Dude knock offs, car air freshners and hummus chips, and you don't want to walk all over the store.

I don't find our Aldi is out of items much more frequently than somewhere like Walmart, but they do tend to have items that are only in the store for limited times.

I see HyVee is closing the Wahlburgers concept and reverting to the Market Grille concept (whatever that means). Why don't they just return to the full deli operation - seemed very popular to me??

What I miss the most of Hy vee is the five minute horse races they sponsored on one of the Des Moines stations. They gave you a ticket to see if your horse won. They put the horse races in between Gilligans Island and Hogans Heroes after you got out of school.
