I hope this is just message board rumors and he doesn't transfer as I love Casey, but if he does I don't consider it a major red flag on the staff. We have a more limited NIL budget than Oklahoma State does, so if they are willing to throw big money at Casey, it might make sense to save our budget for other spots/transfers since we have Paniro and potentially Ech at 149. If they can't compete with Okie State's offer, I don't blame them. I also don't blame wrestlers looking to maximize their earnings while in college.

I know Paniro has struggled in the big moments, but lets see how he does this week. I think Paniro has a higher ceiling than Casey, but Casey is more consistent. I think we always knew as fans we weren't likely to keep all of Paniro/Casey/Chittum with them being at 2 weights and all AA contenders (not to mention the Frosts, Ech, etc in that range), so I don't think it is a major red flag if one of them chooses to leave for a bag. Now, if we lose all of them, that is a red flag lol
Agree with all of this and will add that I was frankly shocked they all came back this year. Losing a transfer or two in the middle weights would suck, but would not reflect poorly on the staff IMO.

I’d be extremely bummed if Casey left. I believe he is the fireplug leader our program needs. But selfishly I like to watch him beat on guys while in an ISU singlet. Absolutely love his style of wrestling.
Agree 100% he appears to have a contagious attitude and is a demonstrative leader in action and speak. A David Carr type if you will yet uniquely different. In this NIL age and the “me first” attitude, ISU has to separate themselves as that “team first” and “rising tide raises all ships”culture.

David did that and pushed for that team trophy, Casey can be and hope he is the next in line.

This is exactly what I meant when I said it would be a major red flag for the staff I didn't say red flag on the staff. Red flag warning of who is going to be the leader like david was, who is going to be that team driver/sparkplug/vocal guy? They would need to figure that out asap.

To read the Okie State boards, you’d think our entire team was beer swillin, hard charging law breakers with terrible pasts that no program wants. Ha! That would be like me saying I’ve heard for years that OSU guys love the finest of Columbian white powder! Oh wait, I think I just said it

I won't entertain the idiots on the other board but I will say I think Casey has a higher ceiling than Paniro in folkstyle. Paniro and his gas tank issues are better suited for freestyle, in my opinion. But this is a team that can't afford to lose guys. We are looking at a finish outside the top 15 and I hate hearing the talks of buying guys to fill gaps rather than developing and managing the roster and talent we have. We already have tons of talent in the room, enough to easily be a top 5 team next year. All the time spent wondering what everyone else is doing and we will struggle moving forward, look at Iowa trying to buy pieces and hope it works.

I disagree with Casey having a higher ceiling, but he for sure has a higher floor. Casey doesn't seem like a guy to me that could beat a SVN, Lovett, or top guy to be a national title winner. He is a bit limited athletically and is more likely to get majored by those guys. Casey also struggled more with mat wrestling where Paniro has always been pretty good with mat wrestling. Paniro has the athleticism and can beat anyone, but can also lose to anyone because of the close style he wrestles. We will see how Paniro does this weekend and if he can start to enter into the title contender tier. I don't want Casey to leave, but if he does, we will have Paniro at 149 again next year.

Personally I don’t see much difference in Casey, his athleticism, and his wrestling style compared to Kasak and Haines. He’s nearly identical to those two in a lot of ways, he just has to continue to get better on the mat, which just comes down to coaching. He could also continue to grow and get stronger like both of them and move up a weight or two.

Redding and now Terukina in the portal. Still have 141-157 stacked… wonder who else could enter? Unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised.

If Casey ends up anywhere else that would be a major red flag for this staff.

Edit: Okay explain why you disagree?

Casey is the guy you want on your team. Listen to last year with David and pushing him. That is a not only a vocal leader but a leader by doing that this team needs.

I'm all for having this discussion
I could agree based on seeing how we do in the NCAAs. A lot of decisions have not been smart this season.

Not to steal @buf87's thunder, but the roster for next year is 30 guys. People are going to come and people are going to go. And people that want the opportunity to be part of ISU wrestling are going to be squeezed out because of the NCAA.

The team is going to be okay. The coaches may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. They are always working. Enjoy the ride, it's going to be fun.

Are you for sure they were born at night

Is this official? I’ve only read the articles and speculation but haven’t seen it officially released

My understanding is that while it's not quite finalized, it appears to be heading in that direction for wrestling and that is the most likely outcome going forward.

It's dumb, I don't see the value in taking opportunities away from young people. But everyone I have talked to about it, it appears that there's no going back for next year.

Crazy because schools always made money off of those “extra” kids that came to play sports and don’t get scholarship money. Then those kids might convince or persuade other kids to come to the school as well, creating growth and popularity. Weird concept to cut that down

This isn’t a direct knock on Swid, but if a team has seemingly unlimited NIL and is need of a 149, there are a number of other kids out there they’d take a run at.

Tagen also isn’t long for 141 and will be 149 next year, not to mention the crazy recruiting class they have with some future 149 studs
