Iowa High School BEDS count 24-25

Looking at the BEDS numbers, does anyone know what the * beside Waco means, there was one other school with it beside their number also?

Both schools will be in the CML in the next 10 years or less, the growth of those districts over the past 20 years has been amazing. Throw in Waukee will be needing another school by then, and also maybe Ankeny. The 5 metro schools are never going to have a chance to compete with the growth of the suburban districts.
Talking to some area ADs, there had been a quiet, private concept that Norwalk, DCG, Indianola, Urbandale, and Ames could band together outside of the CIML and convince one other school or three other schools to leave the CIML to join them. Dowling was identified early, but Indianola was a hard no on that. Ankeny and Waukee were also brought up but never seriously considered because they were never going to be allowed to leave. Then up-and-coming schools, such as North Polk, B-F, and DMC, were also considered. Too bad it never got off the ground.

Here you go!

Got a chuckle looking at Lamoni's number and thinking that town has got a college in it and then forgot that Fayette also has a college but no longer has a HS, MS or elementary school.

Looking at that list and all the scuttlebutt the last couple weeks, is Urbandale going to drop out of 5A in the next couple cycles I wonder?

Lamoni has a very small footprint for a district. To the South a few miles they hit Missouri, and not many people living to the West of town. They should merge with Leon and have it done with, but you could say the same thing about many of the small towns in that part of the state.

FB districts for new two year cycle released:

I saw an article that stated that Leon, Central Decator is going to have their middle school team start playing 8 man this season, so they must think they will be playing 8 man in 2 years.

Can someone explain to me how a school that is 3A in basketball/track (with 4 classes) but 2A in football (with 5)??

Roland-Story to Oelwein (2A District 4) is a 2 hour drive one way.
Boone has three trips greater than 2.5 hours (Glenwood, CB Jefferson, & Lewis Central)

BB = 48/64/96/remainder
FB = 36/36/36/48/48/remainder

So the 109th-112th biggest schools are 3A bb and 2a fb. Also there are 6 classes for 11-man fb.

Just a few years ago, Union Laporte City was 3A....now down to 1A. Strange times

When I was in school Gilbert & East Marshall were both 2A. Now Gilbert is 4A and East Marshall is A.
Gilbert would be a 3A school if they just went by their BEDS numbers, but when they throw in the free and reduce lunch numbers it allows schools to drop down below them. By the BEDS count they would be the 2nd largest school in 3A. They are expanding the size of the pre-K from 5 sections up to at least 6 when their new building is finished next year.

Did a bunch of people use vouchers to go to Don Bosco?
I doubt it. They seem to pull more from the Jesup area. And, Bosco is still in 8 man. I don't think DB saw a huge increase with the vouchers. And who knows, maybe they limited it too....IDK

My son is dating a girl from Jesup. Sounds like if anything they've been pulling kids from Gilbertville up there. Both those towns are wrestling nuts and if I kid gets beat out at one school they're bouncing around like it's travel baseball teams.

Bosco doesn't have the space to get much bigger. Either does Columbus.

The one that's going to get big in the Cedar Valley is Waterloo Christian. They just bought the old Cedar Falls High School and are going to renovate it in phases as they grow. I'll bet they're a 3A school in a decade.
