Milan Rumors - Hand Injury

I'd be amazed if Nojus comes off the bench before Watson if he's healthy. Nojus has a bright future but I think he's found himself in a similar spot to Omaha last year where TJ just doesn't have a ton of trust in him. Watson is a known quality and TJ knows what he will get out of him.
We'll see. He typically came off the bench 1st early in the year IIRC

You respect Heise, but I doubt they say do not help off of him. Milan is a certified bucket from out there, so no disrespect to Heise. I agree it's not the end of the world. Just that it could have more of an impact on our offense than some people think.

I’m not downplaying his impact from a shot making standpoint, but from a spacing standpoint, I don’t think it will be a huge impact with Heise in there. It’s not like teams were putting their best defender or that they were face guarding Milan. The only thing that will change it is if they put Watson out there, who is no threat offensively, or Nojus, who you make prove he can hit shots.

I agree, though he's playing against a better team in practice than he would be on the court ;). Still, it's nice to get that experience in front of the crowd and under the bright lights to get used to it.

True. I don’t think it’s a huge deal at all. But there were games when I wish they’d have played everyone a bit more.

I hope to heck it’s not true, but of the players to lose… he’s scored double digits once in conference play. It hurts to lose his 3PT% but the bottom line is you’ve already had to find ways to win without relying on him putting up big numbers. I’m not as concerned as others here about defenses suddenly being able to pack it in and stifle ISU’s offense. Jones is and has been far and away opponents’s biggest concern for a few weeks now, let’s not pretend everything was falling into place because Mom was pulling one guy into the corner
Far too much smoke and detail for it not to be true.

This is where it hurts a tiny bit that he wasn’t getting much , if any, playing time in the blowouts.

Yea a little bit. I bet they are getting better work in practice than in the game. I know it’s different, but it’s not like they would have gotten and PT on the true road games, which is where the experience really matters.

We would know before Vegas knows. Most of the people here who get this info are directly tied to the program. Vegas is not as directly connected. That being said, these things don't typically move a line as much as people think.
Right, I would expect the injury is already baked into whatever the line is now. These rumors were spreading last night when it opened at 5.5. And now it's 6.5.

The "where there's smoke, there's fire" line of argumentation has led to some very silly places in the past. I know this conversation is scuttlebutt on a college sports board and not serious journalism, but whenever I hear that argument deployed I wince inside and get ready for this one to be wrong.

And perhaps in that time he was getting caught up in practice on various aspects.

Heise getting back to being a 35% 3 point shooter like he was for most of his career at UNI sure would be nice right about now (and how he looked in the December non-conference).

Jones, Lipsey, and Heise should be able to adequately space the floor and keep a defense honest. Jones has been great from outside all year, Lipsey has been coming around lately, and Heise had that one good stretch in December but was cold from outside before and after that.

I think it's more likely that the rotation will just shrink if Milan isn't able to go. Start CuJo or Heise, the other plus Chatfield off the bench, that's the rotation. Maybe Watson or Nojus for 5 min max.

I’d add this thread is like 5% actual smoke and 95% discussion on how it would affect the gameplan

This team is as prepared as any to withstand an injury like this. Hope it’s not long term.

Trust TJs system. Elite coaches are prepared for this type of adversity, and elite teams respond.

This isn’t your 2014 NCAA tournament Cyclones. This team is deep, and there are multiple guys who will get a chance to step up.

Next man up!! Beat KU

Really? Nojus was pretty clearly ahead of Watson in the non-conference rotation and provides the shooter role that Milan had more than Watson. Plus getting Nojus some actual conference minutes could help him for next years roll. We'll see but I expect Nojus to get the nod first.

Yeah, most likely we are mainly going to see Chatfield and Heise playing a few more minutes when Momcilovic would have been out there. Then a little Watson or Nojus to fill it out (maybe in some games and not others).

I hope they try to keep the guards at upper 20s or low 30s minutes per game. It should continue to pay dividends keeping them fresh.
