I was at ISU as an undergrad during the 80's. Ron Virgil was my favorite 6th man during his junior year, as he started most of his senior year. Then along came Tyrus McGee and his Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson like ability to hit the floor hot and ready to launch a 3 with no time needed to warm up. His shooting and energy, along with the fact that like Tamin Lipsey, when he was on the court there was no such thing as a 50-50 ball, made him a new favorite. I thought he would never be replaced or even threatened as best 6th man, but then along comes Curtis Jones. Maybe as "the 6th starter" he won't win any 6th man off the bench awards, but dude has carved a new place in Cyclone lore with the logo 3's, great defense, and even learning acrobatic drives from Gilbert.

Curtis Jones is the best sixth man in the country, easily. He is as clutch as it gets and he's a cold-blooded killer. As awesome as guys like Tyrus McThree were, no other sixth man for ISU comes close to CuJo. He's got so much energy, knows how to defend well, and will always come through when we desperately need him.

McGee and C Jones probably my 2 most recent favorites. Trying to go through some of the rosters since 2000 and not finding guys nearly on the level as them or guys that maybe became starters before they left ISU and were only bench players for a year or 2. The McDermott years especially are really lean as there were some memorable bench players but not guys could fill it up like McGee and Jones can.

FWIW, and I know stats and things don't mean everything for peoples favorite 6th man, but for the 2012-2013 season McGee had an offensive rating of 124.7 for the whole season via KenPom. He shot a blazing 46% from 3 point land that year (96-207)

Jones was 110.6 last year and so far this year is 127.5 which is 169th best for D1 players

McGee is the only Iowa State player where I thought the ball was going in every time he shot. He led the NCAA in 3p % while shooting fall all way 23 footers. One of my all time favorites.
Cujo is getting close to that for me. Everytime he shoots I expect it to go in.
