***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

LOVE this move by the Cubs. Tucker is a stud. Wesneski is easily replaceable in free agency. Shaw is near-major league ready and can take over at 3rd. Smith has a lot of potential but more 1st round picks flame out in baseball than pan out. Sign Tucker for 8 years/$360 mil and call it a day.

There's speculation the Astros are going to be unloading some salary as they'll be flirting with the first tier of the luxury tax after projected arbitration guys settle and have extensions and holes they’d like to fill.

Having failed to sign Kyle Tucker to an extension in the past and he's entering his walk year, I wonder if there's any shot the Cubs could try and make a move for him.
Sometimes if you throw **** at a wall, it sticks

You gotta trade quality to get quality, so I'm OK with Smith included in the deal, but I gotta be honest, I'd have been happier if it was someone like Canario, Triantos or even Caissie. I fear Smith is going to be a monster and like Jackson Ferris last year, the Cubs moved him too early.

Levine says the Cubs are now closing in on a deal for a front line starter. My $$$ is Jesus Luzardo.
I like Luzardo but that would probably cost the Cubs a pretty penny given how cheap he is and with more than one year of control.

Maybe something like Alcantara, Wicks, Cruz and then a lesser prospect gets it done.

The trade is tough if Tucker is a Cub for a year.

But unlike most, I feel Tucker will be with the Cubs long term if he has a great 2025. The Cubs didn't go all in on Bellinger after a great 2023 because his analytics were flukey.

This team needed a shakeup. I'll worry about an extension in a year. In the meantime, I'll watch him rake in this lineup. If the Cubs move Bellinger, they have more money to work with than they did yesterday.

Lineup we’re probably looking at
1 Happ ( PCA in future)
2 Shaw
3 Tucker
4 Suzuki
5 Busch
6 PCA
7 Hoerner
8 Swanson
9 catchers

Our lineup would look a lot better with some pop added in place of Horner. Bellinger at first. Busch second or 3rd with Shaw at 2nd) does that but we know that isn’t happening. I wonder if Caisie doesn’t start getting a look at first in the spring

I hope we get better hitting weather this year to help with recruiting him back.

Like your optimism on Shaw. But feel like to set him up to succeed, take things slow and bat him bottom 3rd.

Seems like Hoerner's ability is being downgraded with the trade talk & mediocre 2024. Bat him 2nd until he proves he doesn't belong there.

Hoerner doesn’t walk two is not a good shot for him. Can’t find better protection than Shaw would get .

Look up & down the Cubs lineup. There are no elite OBP guys.

But at least there is a reasonable swing/miss in Hoerner's history. Hoerner struck-out 10.3% of his 641 2024 PA's. Shaw struck-out 20.3% of his 130 AAA at bats.

Like I said, bring Shaw along slowly. If he hits well in April/May bump him in the lineup.

Best thing if Hoerner excels and he's still on the block, he'll have great value.

To be fair, Tucker was 3rd in the MLB in OBP if he qualified but his injury kept that from happening. Seiya was 14th in MLB.

My bigger concern is run producers. In trading Belli, I’d like to see one more impact bat at 3B.

No idea where you turn for that.

Shaw had a slow start at Iowa then tore it up. It’s easy to project what you want with small samples
