***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

To be fair, Tucker was 3rd in the MLB in OBP if he qualified but his injury kept that from happening. Seiya was 14th in MLB.

My bigger concern is run producers. In trading Belli, I’d like to see one more impact bat at 3B.

No idea where you turn for that.
Sign Bregman. He'll cost a lot but he fits a need and is the best available option

The trade is tough if Tucker is a Cub for a year.

But unlike most, I feel Tucker will be with the Cubs long term if he has a great 2025. The Cubs didn't go all in on Bellinger after a great 2023 because his analytics were flukey.
He'll have a great year....even though he has proven himself, it's his big payday year. The question is, will the Cubs go get it.

Lineup we’re probably looking at
1 Happ ( PCA in future)
2 Shaw
3 Tucker
4 Suzuki
5 Busch
6 PCA
7 Hoerner
8 Swanson
9 catchers

Our lineup would look a lot better with some pop added in place of Horner. Bellinger at first. Busch second or 3rd with Shaw at 2nd) does that but we know that isn’t happening. I wonder if Caisie doesn’t start getting a look at first in the spring
If I’m picking, Tucker bats second and I move move Shaw way down the lineup. It probably gives Tucker an extra 20 AB on the year, and between Happ and Tucker, Seiya would be coming up with someone on base very frequently.

Like your optimism on Shaw. But feel like to set him up to succeed, take things slow and bat him bottom 3rd.

Seems like Hoerner's ability is being downgraded with the trade talk & mediocre 2024. Bat him 2nd until he proves he doesn't belong there.
Put Tucker in the 2 hole

Sounds like 20 more ABs with 10 fewer RBIs. With your logic why not bat him lead off.

If Tucker hits fa, the cubs won't be the highest bidders. Give him whatever he asks for now.

It's a good trade for the cubs either way but if he's a one year rental they had better improve the pitching to make it worthwhile.

On the bright side if the cubs suck again and ownership still won't cut big checks they can probably trade him at the deadline and get a similar prospect in return.

3 team trade proposal with Yankees and Marlins?

Cubs get Jesus Luzardo, Yanks get Bellinger, Marlins get Triantos, Cruz, Warren.

4 starting lefties isn’t ideal

Hawkins says the Cubs are looking at FA's for the answer at 3B while guys in the minors should be licking their chops for an opportunity. I'd guess this would be Moncada or Polanco.

I'm curious if the Cubs go ahead and keep Hoerner, let Shaw play 2B while Hoerner recovered. Shaw and FA 3B then compete for regular time at 3B once Hoerner is healthy.

With PCA, a healthy Hoerner, Shaw, Tucker, and even Happ, the Cubs have some speed on the bases to manufacture some runs. Wouldn’t shock me if we led MLb in that category

Shaw had a slow start at Iowa then tore it up. It’s easy to project what you want with small samples

I'm just saying bring Shaw along slow. Low pressure, don't set him up to fail by immediately batting him top of the order. Bigger sample size of 523 at bats at AA & AAA Shaw struck out 18% of his PA. There is a HUGH difference between AAA & MLB pitching.

Love the optimism on Shaw. Just think Hoerner's a better #2 hitter until Shaw proves himself in Chicago.

Moncada is not a bad shout as a flier to fill some time at 3B. He’s going to be cheap, upside is there, but not going to block anyone if they emerge.

Sounds like Jesus Luzardo deal is almost official. Love him, love Boyd, don’t love both being injury prone. If Jed plans on being safe with both of them, along with Roki, this rotation could be elite
