He didn't get a chance? That's what practices and scrimmages are for. I wish JJ nothing but the best, but myself, I can't imagine he did not have every chance to excel.
He didn't get a chance to play. Sure he got to practice but with Rocco winning games, he would have had to look amazing and way better as Campbell not going to bench a healthy QB. There is no reason to believe JJ would be worse than Rocco if he started this year. He could be just as good

The curse of the Iowa State four star. Look back at our recruiting classes and nearly every four star Iowa State landed doesn't amount to anything. Kohl, Gaines, Deyo, Imming, Dekkers, Pedersen. Verdict is still out on Moore and Neal.

Someone else said it but there's probably a reason when Iowa State lands a four star.....
Agree

Hopefully enough top of conf finishes that can change that

I would like to know details of LB injuries. There were so many. Upper body or lower body? Occurring in practices, scrimmages, or games? Occurring in defense or in special teams? If you watch old ISU film from the 90's - there were alot bigger shoulder pads used on LBs and more knee braces on linemen. Are game pads the same as practice pads? How many practices are actually full-contact? Where are surgeries performed? Does conditioning or technique reduce injury occurrences?
Both, i think
Mix
Likely both
Yes. Today’s pads are definitely more compact, but also made of much better and more effective materials.
In season, usually 1-2 in full pads. Sometimes full contact, sometimes touch, sometimes a mix depending on the practice period or series being played out
Depends on the injury
Yes and yes and also sometimes **** happens

Tre Spivey of KSU is visiting Thursday? Has that been covered?
Xavier Townsend is visiting also! And Javon Tracy from Miami OH. His brother is a former Hawkeye who is currently a running back for the NY Giants. We offered Tracy's teammate, CB Raion Strader today too. He has 29 passes defended over the last 2 seasons. That is insane.

So we got 4 WRs coming in for visits, that is great! I think the Wisconsin kid will probably visit as well. I would guess that we are wanting to get 2 of these WRs, one big target and one small speedy slot guy. Hope we get Townsend.

That play really bugged me. Freyler bailed on covering a receiver when it was 4th and 1 and he was 12 or more yards off the line of scrimmage. Even if you guess right and it is a run you aren't getting to the line before it is already decided if he is getting the first down. If Freyler covers the guy and knocks it down, ISU is taking the ball over with field position and momentum. Upper classman has got to do better.
That was my frustration watching the replay. Maybe it's just instinct to run at the line, but safety was so far back they can't stop the first down anyway, so why wouldn't responsibility to be sure we doesn't run deep

If we don't have the players to run a 3-3-5, then why continue to run it? Why not adjust? A 3-4? A 4-2? All I know is Scatterbro was 7-10 yards down field before first contact on most of his big runs.
Exactly.

Copy the Vikings and their philosophy.

Get them in the backfield before they get momentum.

Pressure causes mistakes which results in turnovers.

We do ourselves no favors on offense by always facing long drives for points.

Maybe Malachi Coleman can take a call from Chase Conterez to say how much his usage and numbers improved after leaving Nebraska. Yes, different positions, but a change of scenery can do wonders for a player. It was great for Chase last year.

Because it's really difficult to just up and change your scheme mid season when you're having GREAT success with it? It's one thing to throw it in the trash can when you're getting lit up. It's another when you're among the national leaders in getting off the field.

Some of you are ******* terrible at seeing the big picture and using individual results to support your conclusions.

He was passed by Connor Moberly on the depth chart. Your assertion may have some merit if he was still #2 on the depth chart.

Yep. Just copy NFL teams with NFL talent and their philosophy. So easy Alabama and Georgia and elite coaches do that... oh wait... they don't. OK. But yet, Iowa State, with its plethera of NFL caliber ....

2022, lead Big 12 in defense, including rush defense
2023 - 37th in Rush defense
2021-21st in rush defense
2020-8th nationally in rush defense

We need to get better at sacks and TFL's. But good lord. People acting like this defense has not been carrying the program more or less in terms of being elite across the board need to wake up to reality.
