Alabama’s “really good“ schedule included fewer P4 teams than anyone in the Big XII. Their top non-conference opponent was Wisconsin (who went 5-7 and lost their last five games). Their other opponents included Western Kentucky, South Florida, and Mercer (and Bama went up in the CFP rankings after they beat Mercer, which is just as much of a joke as the committee artificially keeping Boise State too high).
If the only measurement of “really good” is your conference opponents, then maybe do better than 1-2 against conference teams that won 6 games or fewer.
