*** Official Texas Tech vs #11 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Lea Nelson after the game with CW summed up last night better than anyone I've seen so far when she said something to the affect.... "we didn't look like a team that was playing to WANT to be 8-0... played like it was just another game.".

I think that completely nailed my feelings about it afterwards. We just didn't look like we really WANTED it. Played with hardly any emotion... played ULTRA conservatively... and played like we were just trying to prevent losing instead of going out and taking the game and getting to 8-0.

This kind of playing has cost CMC before too. He mentioned last season sometime after the Ohio loss I believe... that he realized he wasn't giving his players a chance to go out there and just play to win the game they love to play and was holding them back from being their best.

Rocco's face after getting up off the ground following his designed QB sweep run on 3rd and 10 said it all last night... he even said... "wtf are we doing??". You could tell he wanted to go win that thing... not settle for a 50 yd FG attempt. That's what separates these kids from other kids... their competitiveness and drive to win. And at times... CMC has not allowed them the chance to shine and prove themselves. It's actually sad to watch. Let them play!
This is a good point and aligns with what we have seen over Campbell's tenure here. When the expectations grow and they get a target on their back, they tend to crawl into a shell and play tight. When expectations are low they play with their hair on fire and churn out impressive performances. I had KU next week as a definite loss if we ended up winning yesterday. But with the loss out of the way and people starting to doubt a bit, I wouldn't be surprised to see a good performance next week.

Agree. Wouldn't it be awesome if the entire stadium were allowed to do that... we'd have the worst college college football atmosphere in the entire country with all the empty seats!! That would be great, wouldn't it?
pony up the money and you can

I'm just saying... what if we had a whole stadium like the south end where you could go inside and watch TV and drink instead... we'd have the worst college football atmosphere in the country... and be known has having the worst fans too I might add. That would be great. I'd love to be a player at ISU playing in front of nobody... who wouldn't!

I had season football tickets for years and years and years. Have not had them for a few years now. It's gotten too expensive and isn't worth it to me anymore. College football in general is just becoming more and more of a turn off for me over the years. It's always been just greed... but even more so now.

Reactions: Lineup
Squib kicks, untimely penalties, wasting timeouts and red zone woes were common themes in our 1-score losses in 2022 and 2023. We saw too much of that again today.
Another point
Why take Sama out when he got you to the 1 yard line and was really feeling it? That was a killer with no touchdown on that drive!

We are Iowa State.
Two things that have become almost guaranteed for Iowa State -- 1) giving the opponent an easy score on their first possession and 2) playing a loose prevent defense at the end of the game, letting the opponent march right down the field.

We still control out own destiny, win out and we are fine. Games like last night shows how difficult it is to have a perfect season.
What is most disappointing is that coming off an off week, I would like to see the offense come out with a few different wrinkles, and execute a little better than what we played last night.

Defense still struggles to put pressure on the QB, allowing easy passes to be completed. Football is a game of give and take, we need to start doing things on defense to take away the scripted plays, which have been a struggle the entire season.

I wonder how well we scout ourselves. We have a target on our back and it’s almost like the teams are listening to our players in our huddle.

FWIW, we will need to be Texas Tech *fans* next Saturday when they host Colorado!
I think Colorado will just air it out and tech has no answer for that. Colorado has way better an okay than pretty much everyone.

I was thinking about all of the pivotal moments in a one point loss.

A TD catch with the receiver’s hand firmly planted in our defensive back’s chest the last ten yards.

Six inches when Abu didn’t make the pylon.

A needless “hands to the face” penalty.

The list goes on and on.

Well, the odds say we got it all out of the way now. Time to get back on track.

Bolded isn't the pivotal play in that situation. The offsides on the next play was.

Didn’t want to read through 2K worth of posts, so maybe this was asked and answered already.

During kickoffs, why did the Tech sideline hold an ordinary car tire in the air?
