True. Obviously last year was a disappointment. I’d think we are set up to give them a better shot this year, although others would know better.
At the very least, we match up better than the year Gomez almost stuck DeSanto? Hopefully they can break through.

packed stand equates to dollars and wrestling is in the unenviable spot of not being able to draw large crowds in comparison to other sports
example- as you stated with CKLV should be packed - i mean come on Vegas & top level wrestling
Part of this is due to causal fans don't truly understand the sport
but the 1 thing any fan understands is at the end of any sporting event
what team won
thus, again from your post the importance of Dual meet TEAM victories for the sport's future
we need more top ranked teams facing off week in and week out
maybe a true dual meet championship - injury concern hold it after nationals
bottom line the sport needs to put more as**s in seats
Definitely last year - a lot of people thought we had a good chance to finally break the streak. Ech had Woods on the ropes and almost pulled it off. Cody got screwed on a takedown call/ took Franek to deep waters. But MJ losing to a guy who hasn’t been wrestling coming off a knee procedure and Feldkamp losing to a nonstarter true freshman hurt big time
Plenty of coaches at the D1 level are aware of the impact a dual championships would have on our sport from a TEAM aspect and getting eyes on our sport. ESPN would be able to market it better and people would turn in to watch the intensity and suspense of a team dual with everything on the line and high level competition. This is an individual sport to an extent, but casual fans love a team aspect that draws them in to see who is going to win. A lot of duals can go 6-4 or 5-5 and come down to the end with a lot of excitement
If anyone has a chance to go to CKLV, do it.
Iowa is significantly better this year than last. Last year was ISU’s shot. This year would really take an absolute best case scenario performance with multiple upsets along the way. In Carver, extremely unlikely.
We don’t have the option to put our best lineup out in November.
I’ll always remember Nationals vs any dual though.

There are some injuries and guys recovering from minor things where it might not make sense to wrestle them in November while keeping the big picture in mind. Not just weight cuts. However, we have much better depth now than we did in the past to handle some of these injuries
If it’s 125, we shouldn’t be relying on the Cuban to be the savior when he’s never wrestled a folkstyle match yet. Grice has been around long enough he should be ready to go. Same with Frost at 141 and Rojas or whoever else at 165/174. Guys in the program who are fighting for a spot should be able to step up to the plate and compete at a high level, especially with 125 and 141 being Iowas weakest weights
While this is true for most hardcore fans, I know almost all other Cyclone fans only pay attention to this dual meet as the marker for “success” against the hated toe
I will be there with my spouse and another couple. Looking forward to it.
