These are some of my favorite threads and I am pretty uninformed, but thought I would give it a shot.

25-tossup diversent over cruz 3-0 isu
33-tossup frost big brothers Ayala 6-0 isu
41swiderski md block 10-0 isu
49 tossup ech dec parco 13-0
57 teemer over johnson 13-3
65 caliendo over gaitan 13-6
74 arnold major naak 13-10
84 brand over bockman 13-13
97 buchanan over carroll 13-16
Hwt bastida majors keuter 17-16

This seems pretty optimistic, but this seems tight with a lot that could go either way. Iowa probably favored at 25, 65, 74, 84, 97 isu favored 41, hwt and lots of tossups.

I don’t think Teemer & Buchanan will be eligible until 2nd semester. Block is 149/157. Also, we have at least three 125-pounders that would beat Cruz. Still way too early to predict this meet as there will probably be at least 1-2 injuries between the 2 teams. Not to mention is Brands going to be as good with the year off, how good will Keuter be this early in the season. You also have Ayala bumping up. Similar questions for several of ISU wrestlers especially regarding handling weight cutting.

Who makes the call if teemer and Buchanan are eligible for the dual? I believe they are not eligible until 2nd semester, but it seems this is subject to interpretation.

**but I think we have guys who can beat them both***

big $ transfers are going to eligible right away because of the loopholes, right? Cruz won’t be the 125. Ayala is the best either team has to offer, IMO.

Is any of that true? I am pretty sure both Teemer & Buchanan will be good to go starting this weekend at Oregon St.

Kale Peterson will be Iowa’s 125 and I am fairly certain Block will be their 141.

As much as I hate to say it, they’re going to be pretty darned good top to bottom (but, so are we).

I really want to speculate about this matchup, but ISU’s lineup is too undecided.

I think ISU will likely only be solid favorites in 2-3 weights, but will be right there in 2-3 more. It will take a lot to go right for ISU to have a chance. Iowa likely wins 7/10.

Which 2-3 weights do you think we will be solid favorites in?

I don’t think I can name 3.

I’d call Bastida a favorite over Keuter, outside of that so many toss ups, unknowns, or were “underdogs”.

Yea it’s tough and you’re probably right. To me the 3 are Bastida, AE, and Osmany. But 49 is probably more of a tossup and Osmany is still too unknown. If Casey truly goes 41 that would be nice.

I still think ISU wins 3. My rankings from most to least likely Wins for ISU:
285
125
149
133
141
157
197
184
174
165

I’d probably be close to yours as well with most to least likely.

I’m not as optimistic about 197 as some are just yet. Gotta see how the weight management goes early. If that match is in February or March I’d feel much better about it.

We’ll learn some things about Iowa this weekend too. Oregon State isn’t great, but they have a few tough guys.

You’re correct Kale is 125 and Block is going to be 141. It will be very, very close. 6-4 Iowa or 5-5 and going to need some bonus points to pull it off.

Sounds like everything I heard this summer has changed which is fine. Bring it on, ISU expects to compete for a championship this winter. If everyone wrestles their top guy at each weight there will be some great matches. No heavy favorites on either side which means at least 2-3 matches will not end like the experts expect.

This is why I am hesitant to make any predictions.

Our lineup is basically only set at 133, 184, 197 & heavy.

We have a good first dual lined up as well. We will learn quite a bit but that still likely won’t be our Iowa lineup.

Pretty close to what I would have, but I think I am more confident in 184 with Bockman over whoever Iowa puts out there than Carroll over Buchanan at this point. I also am more confident in Frost and Ech over Ayala and Parco than our 125 (Diversent, Grice, or Meza). By March, that will likely change, but Diversent will still be getting used to folkstyle, managing his weight, and then wrestling in Carver for the first time on top of that will be a challenge.
