Survivor 47

I learned a lot about all the new drugs out for diseases I've never heard of..

I always forget how many commercials there are on these shows as I almost never watch network entertainment shows anymore.

Can't wait to get back to Florida where I can Tivo and watch the 2 hour show in less than 90 minutes.

Sometimes I pause and do enough stuff to where when I resume watching I can skip thru commercials

Finally watched the 1st episode last night, no one has talked about tonight yet which I haven't watched yet either so perfect time to make some comments on the 1st episode.

The first vote rarely has much of a consequence for how the season plays out so whether it was Andy or Jon, I don't see either making it far regardless. Jon has a big of a smug factor to me and anyone who plays it too hard on the first vote usually goes or is gone soon after. Andy was the easy vote after the meltdown and he tried to make a big move from the start going after Anika. It's all about numbers and keeping the tribe strong long enough to make a merge and Andy was the obvious weak link to be voted out yet that tribe somehow found a way to overthink the 1st vote. I don't think Jon was going to be a strong player either but Andy has train wreck and drama written all over him.

I like the new twist to the beware advantage making it a multi-tiered risk by increasing the power of the idol if they choose to keep going. We'll see if those who get the idol play it right this season as last season a lot of them went unused because those who had them got too confident in their place in the game.

The first challenges were pretty tough, really made them work for it from the start which is when they have the most energy and stamina to do well in physical challenges and you can tell several of them used up a lot of energy competing hard.

That’s almost word for word what I said. Nobody has told that girl no before. Also it probably burns that Andy got over on those two girls when he is pretty much a moron

She mentioned being devastated in her goodbye thing at the end. I would be too if I got fooled by a moron like andy.

What an epic blindside. She was so shocked. That was gloriAndy.
Last 2 weeks have been good elimination wise and just shows from a blindside pov that survivor is superior to bb.

Almost thought Sol was throwing immunity with how long he was taking to knock those final couple of blocks off.

After all these seasons I have no idea why anyone goes to tribal feeling 100 percent confident. If I played I would be terrified every tribal

I finally got caught up on the season this weekend. Anika's blindside probably the best tribal of the season so far. Really just about every vote other than the 1st one has been somewhat of a blindside in some form as there is someone on about every tribe that someone wants out that seems logical but they can't pull off the votes when they get the chance. Some smart players so far I think that could lead to some good moves when the merge comes.

If you look at the tribes it feels like Lavo doesn't like Rome but he's been navigating the votes pretty well getting both Aysha and Kishan gone. Looked like Sol was a goner and he and Rome must have patched things up as after that vote they seemed to get along much better. Andy looked like the easy vote on Gata and he's survived 2 votes. He comes off dumb but I wonder if it's an act at times as there is always that 1 player every season that looks like an easy vote but makes it far or to the end and he just feels like maybe that is the game he is trying to play. Tuku feels like some of them see Sue as an easy target but she is the kind of player I think I would want to align with if I were playing as she is going to be loyal to you and is going to play smart and not emotional. Case in point, when they had that reward challenge with the social hour she sat back and observed while Tiyana shared way too much info on what was going on in their tribe. She used that to shift the target off her any onto Tiyana now.

Other observations, they have integrated some new challenges but still feels puzzle heavy component so far. The new twists with the immunity idols I like. Sue trying to clean up all that red paint made for a tough way to hide that something had happened there. The idol where you could keep risking your vote to increase the power was a good way to make things interesting as well. Another thing I don't understand is do these tribes not make sure they have a strong fire going before they go to challenges? You'd think with the possibility of losing your flint you'd want to make sure you at least have some hot embers to come back to if you do. Trading the 3 chickens for eggs then losing the challenge and having no fire to cook the eggs was hilarious. Frustrates me too that there always seems to be a conflict about killing the chickens to eat. Trying to remember who on that tribe didn't want to kill them but if you aren't a true vegan, you should know where your meat comes from and not have a moral dilemma on killing one to eat. Also wonder why they just didn't try to construct a small pen to contain them around camp as they said they lost eggs that cracked on that small cage they were in. Not sure if that tribe has fishing net but even just constructing a fenced in area with some bamboo to give those chicken a bigger area would of solved that.

Still too early in the season to tell how I feel about it. I think there are some potentially good players on this case and at least we haven't seen too much so far as stupid votes or gameplay as we have in some of the more recent seasons.

I have heard that when they leave camp they put the fires out to avoid a big fire. Started back in the day when one of the camps caught on fire. So I thought the same thing about fire but have heard they make them put the fire out.

Edit.. I just found this

Yes, on "Survivor," contestants are required to completely extinguish their campfires before leaving for challenges or tribal council, meaning they must put out the fire whenever they leave their campsite. This is a safety precaution to prevent accidental fires in the wilderness where the show is filmed.

Has anyone watched The Traitors on Peacock yet? I don't get into too much reality, but have always been into Survivor and am really liking Traitors.

Finally caught up on 47 (after missing 46) and I just love having a comfort show like Survivor. Thanks for the thread! Random thoughts:
- I love to hate Rome, which is a great thing for the show. A lot of kumbaya on recent seasons so it's fun to have someone stirring the pot so openly.
- Kyle and Sol have lowkey/calm personalities that might help take them far. At some point they'll need to make a move to be a real contender, but I could see them going the "ali-Gabler" route
- messy tribal votes are the best! So many players are caught up in being on the right side of the vote to avoid conflict or have a good record if they make it to Final Tribal. I love when someone gets back to camp tired and upset and they have to deal with the fallout.
- those hot dogs looked terrible

Ah that sucks. I wonder if they would allow you to put some burning embers in your pot or something that would keep (seen this done on other survival shows) or why couldn't they have a fire going out on the beach away from wherever their main camp is where it would not start a bigger fire if left unattended? I swear I have seen them come back from a challenge and stoke some burning embers before to get fire going. I guess it's something I've always wondered if there was any kind of loophole to keeping a fire going while not at camp or if it was by design of the show to make them put it out before an immunity challenge.

That's the 1 question I would love to ask a former contestant if anyone has ever tried to keep some kind of fire going or if they are really strict about putting it out.

I'm kinda liking Rome so far because I like players that play hard like he is. I think he eventually gets voted out before final 3 somewhere but it will be interesting to see who he tries to align with at the merge as he's been pretty strategic up to this point. Some of my favorite Survivor winners and runner ups are players that played hard and were able to work through votes when they had targets on their backs a lot. Tom Westman is probably my all-time favorite winner, other favorites probably are Danni Boatwright, Parvarti Shallow, JT, Cochran, Tony Vlachos (not necessarily the 1st time but he won me over in season 40), Sarah Lacina, Ben Driebergen, and Wendell Holland, and Mike Gabler. I loved watching Russell Hantz play even though a lot of people don't like him he played a good enough game to get to final 3 but pissed too many people off along the way to ever win but there is no denying he knew how to manipulate the votes to get to the end. I kinda hope they bring Russel back for season 50 but wouldn't surprise me if he's not.

That's the one thing I miss about this "new era" of players in Survivor is that too much emphasis in the social aspect so it's hard to read a jury anymore. Players used to respect the physical aspect of winning immunity challenges and how they made moves with key votes and now it just feels like if you didn't make best friends with a majority of the jury those 2 things don't matter much. I mean last season Kenzie essentially won it because the jury thought she had the best "story" outside of the game while Charlie IMO actually played the most well rounded game. Seasons 41 and 42 may have been 2 of the worst season ever after a fantastic season 4 of Winners at War with Erika and Maryanne possibly 2 of the worst winners in the show's history and once again the social crap weighed ever over the other 2 aspects that the runner up's did much better at. Felt like for a few years the show took on some social justice or wokeness phase where stuff outside of the gameplay started to factor into it or Jeff would put it out there for bait hoping to stir the pot a little with certain topics and thankfully they have moved away from that for the most part lately.

The only worse winner than Maryann in my opinion was the guy that sat out on the Island by himself, Avoided all the tribals, then won his way back into the game with like 6 players left. Won the fire making challenge and was voted the winner. That season was the biggest crap every. The social Justice years almost made me quit watching. The contestants sucked, Jeff was acting like he was running for political office instead of hosting a game show. I think ben has been my favorite winner. Just kept finding idols, Deserved the win, and had a good story also. I like when they have the 3 things. Not just the story outside of the game.
