Its fun but that’s all. IMO we are way overrated. Win next weekend and mid teens is def warranted.
I understand your mindset - Iowa State fans don't deserve nice things, especially when it comes to football. We haven't won a conference since sharing the Missouri Valley title with Nebraska in 1912, defeating Simpson, Morningside, Grinnell, Cornell & Drake along the way. I was at ISU when we got to #12 after five weeks in 1981, only to finish 5-5-1. I'm also practicing reverse psychology, convincing myself WVU is a juggernaut and we'll be lucky to escape Morgantown with a W!

Having said that, the conference is there for the taking and Campbell has been slowly building towards this for nine years - we actually have decent depth and seem to be capable of navigating the long haul - one week at a time. The Cubs won a World Series - I'm beginning to believe this is the Year of the Cyclone(s)! Go State!

Putting Miami #4 is bold when they literally got bailed out by the refs the past two weeks.

Okay, you can say the final play vs Va Tech was actually incomplete, but there was no “clear and convincing” video evidence to overturn the “completed pass” call on the field. And they might have still won without that phantom no-targeting call last night, as Cal piddled away a 25-point lead, but you can’t say it didn’t help. A lot.
Am I the only one that noticed Ward was past the line on that pass to get them to first and goal? It was close, but that ball came out with his front foot already past the line of scrimmage and his back foot and arm were right on the line. Shouldn't that have been a flag?

Nope, guy behind me saw it too. He also spotted a lot of holds and was mad about the targeting call. Real stickler for the rules between Fireball shooters.

Bruns went off on the officials on his post game, Sunday AM pod. Said they were an awful crew in multiple ways

BU seemed to get their first 14 as ISU was losing a bunch of players to injury and looked like they were in scramble mode.

Wasn't great but just holding BU to a field goal on one drive is just very different in the 'slow start' deal.

Also worth mentioning is BU themselves came out very sharp and probably hang with all sorts of teams.
Yeah, Baylor has talent, and their backs were against the wall. Their main issue is with confidence, and once our guys asserted their dominance, it kind of crumbled. I'm guessing they'll pick off a team or two that people don't expect.

Almost everyone has warts in the top 10-15 teams so I don’t think we’re overrated. The best part about this is that we have a much more manageable schedule than our highly ranked teams in the past. That 2002 schedule was just brutal. No wonder they were completely out of gas when UConn rolled in at the end of the season.

I think the entire body has to be past the line of scrimmage for it to be a foul. As long as a foot or arm or anything is still at the line, it’s a legal pass.

I don't think Iowa State is the 11th best team, but that's the case every year of teams being over ranked to start the year, or move up high in the rankings. Enjoy being undefeated and moving up in the rankings.

No offense but this is a false take. We see all our flaws and potential issues because we watch ISU every week, so some people are programmed to think the team isn't as good as listed. We don't think about everyone else's flaws and weaknesses. The college world says Iowa State is the 11th best team in the country right now and I will argue with anyone who says they aren't.

I must be confusing it with the NFL then. In the NFL if any part of the body is past the line of scrimmage it's a flag. Thanks for the clarification.

There was also a play, on the game winning touchdown, where an ineligible receiver (one of the linemen from Miami) was more than three yards past the line of scrimmage before Ward threw the ball. Three yards is the allowable limit. Now that one should have been flagged. Number 73 on Miami is 4+ yards past. The penalty there would've made the next play 5 yards back and a loss of down.

I have mixed feelings on how successful I want our football team to be. Should we be fortunate enough to make the first 12 team, I fear the CFP committee will place us so that advancing will be the highest mountain we could possibly climb. And if we are somewhat able to navigate further, my next greatest fear is that the result would put too much pressure on our men's and women's BB teams to match those achievements--although I think we would be treated more fairly in our path to get there.:jimlad::jimlad::jimlad:

Don't let the "highs" get too high or the "lows" get to low but revel in how things are/could be unfolding: possibly the greatest era in ISU sports history and we're here for it!

It is not a loss of down.

The thing people have to remember is that offensively teams first 20 or so plays are scripted. Baylor was screwed once their script had been used. We adjusted and locked them down and they had no answer.

Pressure is privilege! How do we ever get to the next level if we don’t try to climb some mountains? I was here in the 80’s and there wasn’t a commitment to sports like we have now. It’s now or never.

The QB's entire body has to be across the line of scrimmage. Even if his back heel is the only thing on the line of scrimmage, it is legal.

In the new era of college football there are going to be around 8 teams that are going to be there every year. The SEC and B1G are stacking the deck in their favor and it's going to be the blue bloods looking down at everyone else. Outside of those 8 teams just be happy you got invited to the dance... I hate to say it but thjats reality.
