Dame Maggie Smith Dies at 89

Her wit on Dowton Abbey was killer. Now I'd like to go and watch some of the movies when she was young.

I don't know who I want to be more when I grow up, Professor McGonagall or Lady Grantham.
I loved her on Downton Abbey. There was always wisdom behind the wit, and I wish my brain would work that fast and that well.

MS played "Granny Wendy" in the 1991 film Hook. I feel like she's been "old" forever! RIP.
Her first Oscar nomination was in 1965. So for everyone under 50, she HAS always been old.

Also her characters are notorious for being sharp tongued- apparently that was her actual personality too. Sounds like a heck of a person.

She was really good in the Harry Potter movies and excellent in Downton Abbey. I’m embarrassed to say that I watched that show but it was good.
Don't be embarrassed - that was some riveting off-season watching.

Watch her in her Oscar winning roles in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite. She’s also in a movie called Evil Under the Sun with Diana Ring (the amazing Lady O from Game of Thrones) that’s pretty good.

But man. Gosford Park she and Helen Mirren are incredible in that and both Oscar nominated for it. That movie basically led to Downton Abbey. Gosford is one of my favorite movies of all time. Robert Altman at his best.

There is a documentary called Tea with the Dames that is a MUST WATCH for anyone that loves the great dames. Maggie Smith. Judi Dench. Joan Plowright and Eileen Atkins. I just loved it and found it fascinating. They were all like best friends. So great.

I watched that when it came out, and it's great!
