Crazy to think of his career trajectory. Will probably be the first NBA MVP that won’t get inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Those first 3 years were fantastic though.

IMHO i think he is a hall of famer.

I think it's pretty clear to see he was derailed by injury and he is super important to the Chicago guys. That said, he has basically not played meaningful basketball since he was 22, he's 35 now.

I don't know what his resume looks like outside of the NBA, but it helps him it's not the NBA Hall of Fame.

Ok, I have to admit when I first read the thread title, we were talking about our recent linebacker at ISU with the same namesake.

I don't follow the NBA, so the name Derrick Rose didn't resonate with me.

I need more coffee.

Was he part of the first Cal superteam in college? He was NBA ready from Day 1. Great averages but just seems like he is short on the totals to justify HOF.

I don’t think I missed a game his first few years in Chicago when I was living there and got every game locally. He had so many games where they’d be down 10 in the 4th and he’d just take over and win it.

He probably gets a championship if not for LeBron’s length allowing him to match up well in that one ECF. Nobody who ever played could stay in front of him, but LeBron’s length and athleticism allowed him to still defend him like nobody else.

A big part of the “what if” is what if he played for a coach who regulated minutes of star players like Pop instead of one who plays them insane minutes like Thibs.

Only would’ve delayed the inevitable IMO. Small guards that play with reckless abandon have a small window of brilliance. Seeing it now with Ja Morant

To be fair to Rose, he broke down physically. Morant is breaking down mentally and physically.

Will be really interesting to see what the Villanova crew in NY does long term with Thibs. They are going to be really dangerous when healthy. But didn't they break down in the playoffs last year? Maybe the college schedule is part of why TJ's program works as compared to the 82 game.

Would of loved to see what kind of career he would of had if it were not for the injuries that derailed what looked like a promising career. Early on it looked like the Bulls were going to have a star to build around for many years then his injury started the downfall of their success as well.

I don't know about calling it a superteam, but they were really good that year. Iowa St. connection, Shawn Taggart was on that Memphis team.

Those Rose years in Chicago gave the most post-Jordan moments of joy.

Whenever the topic comes up of athletes you take away their injuries he's right up there with Bo Jackson.

That Memphis roster wasn't anywhere near some of Cal's Kentucky teams, but they made it to the national championship and lost to Kansas

He was basically like AI with an extra 40 pounds of muscle and a significantly higher vertical.

AI is the only comp to him in terms of just going hard to the basket but really Rose was on a different level physically. Physically Rose is a lot more comparable to Westbrook but the mentality of his game was more like Iverson.
