Three up:

1. Kyle's kahunas. Walk-on kicker sealing the game with 54 yard boot in a rivalry game. big time
2. The no quit attitude of this team. As a fan, I nearly quit at half time. If iowa had scored a TD at the end of the half I was ready to walk away from the tv and actually enjoy my Saturday.
3. The bend but don't break D. Giving up FG in stead of TD's in some very difficult spots was the difference in the game.

Three down:
1. The margins. unforced errors, penalties, two bobbled snaps by the punter, dropped interception, the long return on the last kick off. nearly lost this game because of the details
2. The entire first half. what the actual **** was that?
3. The bend but don't break D. as mentioned above, it was critical that they bowed up in the redzone, but man they got gouged in the running game. hopefully the LB crew gets healed up sooner than later.

Up
1. we have a freaking kicker!
2. Rocco is the deal as are the receiving corp
3. Adjustments. The team made them on both sides of the ball.

Down
1. all the silly mistakes by the center early in the game. Those were killer.
2. giving up gobs of yards on the ground (we are going to face much better running attacks in the Big 12)
3. That’s all I have…

3 Up
  1. Red Zone D
  2. Konrardy Kick
  3. ISU Stud WR- Jaylins 2 big catches & Jayden TD taking ball away from Hawk Defender
3 Down
  1. ISU rush defense
  2. O-line & Rocco seemed rattled in first half
  3. Play calling in first half. Specifically, not sure we passed on 1st down.

Up:

1. Konrardy kick
2. Second half and red zone defense
3. OL for giving Rocco clean pockets most of the game

Down:
1. Not good vision by Sama on some runs
2. Rush defense, especially the first half
3. Team let themselves get rattled on some early drives. Fortunately it didn't result in anything too killer

I'm a little surprised that everyone is so shocked at the play calling early in the game. We started at the 1 in our first drive, had a **** ton of penalties, and early in the game Rocco threw an interception deep in Iowa territory. It seems to me when everyone is so rattled, they were doing the smart thing with a lot of the play calls. I don't think it was perfect, but it made sense to me.

You can’t scheme for the center shitting the bed that deep in enemy territory.

Yeah being backed up can have a similar effect of shrinking the field if the defense is pinning their ears back.

Rocco's pick looked like a result of that. You start pressing just trying to find something.

My guess is that the plan was never to come out and run like we did early in the game. And, hell, the running might have worked without the penalties.

Honestly, I'm just glad that they came out and passed it in the second half. I think in past years against Iowa, we might not have done that.

Right.

As soon as they downed that punt on the 1, I was thinking to myself "it's the same **** every year".
Me too. And you contrast Iowa's consistently excellent punt game and pinning us back with our inability to do the same. Take that punt where we punted to Iowa, we had two guys who could have downed it when the ball bounced at like the 7 yard line later in the game, and we messed it up and couldn't pin Iowa back like they do to us routinely. So frustrating. I thought for sure it was the "same **** every year" just like you when that happened. Some things never change and Iowa will win the special teams battle again.

....Yet, look at ol' Konrardy saying "you like Iowa special teams.... hold my beer?" Dude's already a legend.

Up
1. Our kicker has a massive leg. He also has massive balls for drilling that one.
2. Our air attack is sexy once the right play calling happens. Noel can beat any secondary with his speed and route running. Higgins is just strong and good.
3. Defense looked far different than last week. Despite only giving up 3 points last week, that 11 minute drive for ND had me worried going into the game against Iowa. This defense was absolutely tough.

Down
1. That was the worst play calling in the first half. Campbell and crew can’t do this. If we come out guns blazing we won’t find ourselves behind for 95% of the game.
2. Hufford was either rattled or just didn’t know what he was doing at center early in the game.
3. Stopping the run. I get that Johnson is a stud, but we have to tackle better against the run.

Agree with down 1. He's been a headache at basically every position he's played. Not sure why they thought center would fix that. But what really put a bullseye on him for me was the Texas game where he ran his mouth during the week but did nothing to back it up.

Watching the game live and the instant replay of the pick it sure looked like Rocco simply couldn't see the defender. Rocco passed that right around two huge human beings tied up right in front of him. The blocker and DL would have been directly between Rocco and the defender.

I don't think it was anything more than the defender was hidden from his view. Post game he even said he didn't see him. Sometimes it is nothing more than that.

Up:

1. We have a great kicker who is only a freshman

2. The professor schooled Iowa

3. Star players rise when it matters most. Our star players did just that

Down:

I refuse to list anything negative after beating Iowa in Kinnick

Up:
  1. Jaylen Noel continues to make big plays
  2. Secondary
  3. D line making plays on the goal line
Down:
  1. 3rd down efficiency on offense
  2. Linebackers made of glass during special teams
  3. Tackling

Up:
--Becht's attitude and play.
--OL and DL looked good once they got settled in.
--LB is thin but things started flowing yesterday in the same way as the trenches.

Down:
--special teams-a couple of punts were still not caught that maybe should have been, long kick returns including Iowa's last possession and weird snaps.
--RBs are talented but at their best going N/S.
--another weird start to the game.
