At the end of the day in the Campbell era this game has always been that we win on paper but lose in reality. I honestly don’t expect that to change, except that maybe the hawks might win on paper. Let’s see if we can win in reality
Win on paper? Lol

A point I didn’t see mentioned about Iowa. There were some penalties that were pretty uncharacteristic in the first half. Just kind of dumb penalties. Graves is a beast. Belief he had three sacks.

Iowa is comfortable getting 4 yards, three yards, three yards, rinse, repeat. It's boring and frustratingly effective. I actually like our offense matching up versus their defense, but we need to get more than 3 possessions a half.

I trust Heacock to adjust, but if he waits until Iowa goes up 14-3, it's going to be a frustrating game to watch. I'd like to see us take some chances early on both sides of the ball versus us letting them dictate the pace.

It's not in Campbell's wheelhouse to risk a fast 3 and out to put his defense back on the field quickly, but the defense gets just as dejected watching the offense flounder with conservative play calling and then sending them back on the field to "keep them in the game".

I just want to see us play to win from the get-go versus playing to keep it close and then win in the 4th quarter.

If we get down 14-3 we've lost.:(

Vegas has this as 2.5 point game so it is certainly winnable. Put it in Rocco’s hands and let him deal to some the best receivers the hoks will see all year.
We think they're pretty good. Are they similar to the best in the B1G? I don't know.

Do we sometimes wear our Cyclone colored glasses and overinflate our players abilities? Quite often, I'm afraid. I like to think they are pretty good and that we can and will beat Iowa Saturday.

Would love to see it.

Hoks -3

O/U 37.5

ESPN Matchup Predictor Hoks 71.4% ISU 28.6

If some of you folks would learn how to spell, that would be great. You think you’re being clever, but you’re embarrassing the rest of us with an ISU education.
I've got an education. This does not embarrass me. Why let it you?

Beat the herks! Life goes on.

I agree with Woody in that the team that makes the less mistakes will win this thing... that always seems to be the case every year. And nearly every single year under CMC... ISU has been the team that has always made the most mistakes and the costliest mistakes at the worst times. So I do not trust us to be able to turn that around... the odds are definitely against it.

I think it was Bruns that has already mentioned that our punt snaps were not ideal on Saturday. Several were low, and it took us quite a bit of time to get the punt off. I think he even predicted there's a good chance Iowa blocks one this week. It's this kind of s**t that we do in this game seemingly every year that cost us these games. Last year the Becht pick 6 was ballgame. One year Breece fumbled inside like our own 10 yd line to them.

Until we start to see a CMC coached ISU team actually win in the margins and details against Iowa... I just can't predict that all of the sudden we'll play a good clean game... and therefore cannot predict an ISU win. It would definitely help if we were completely healthy, but we have injuries all over the place. Lots of young and inexperienced guys playing does not bode well for playing mistake free football either.
At least we don't hear 'win the margins" anymore from Campbell.

I don’t know if it’s been said yet cause I didn’t read all posts. But, Iowa scored 40 points WITHOUT a single Ferentz involved in the offense. I’m predicting a revert back to normal offensive production with Kirk back on the sidelines.

Iowa State can't be afraid to run with Rocco or even make it look like Rocco is running on some pass plays (rollouts, RPOs, or even a Richardson/Bibbs TE dump pass mixed in.) Iowa historically struggles with mobile QBs who are also good passers.

Imo lots of QBs could benefit from a roll out to start with to just get out and play catch even if it's a relatively short gain.

They didn't do that enough with Purdy but that's a whole other discussion.
