Caleb Bacon injury

My non-ISU biased Miami Dolphins podcast said Rose had an elite, veteran level IQ of the game and probably knew the game better than many starting NFL LBs but his athletic limitations would be the reason he wouldn’t really stick somewhere

Essentially said he could make reads and consistently be 2 steps ahead of the offense but even that was too slow.

So….lets bring him back to start learning under Heacock and be the next great ISU coordinator?

Hopefully Rose can land on a practice squad. Not a bad living if you can get it

$21,300/week for vets on practice squads, I had no idea they're paid so well for that. Even if that's not a year-round gig that's a pretty good living!

Has it ever been disclosed what Carson Willich's injury was/is, this weekend is the first I've heard of it? Was it a recent injury?

Same with Will McLaughin sounds like that may of been recent as well, also sounds unknown as to what the injury is. (his back is the rumor)

From a fan who doesn't really know anything, I say go with a 4-2-5, for the time being.

Anyone know what happened to Drew Surges? He was a good special teamer last year that saw time at safety. Even started in the KSU game. I don't think he played on Saturday.
I believe he is dinged up right now, so they held him out. Hopefully, he'll be ready to go vs Iowa.

Klein had a fantastic NFL career and off of that, I thought Rose (B12 DPOY) would make a roster. Hasn’t happened. Bacon has the physical size & I suppose lateral speed but per usual, he’s been hyped by the media and the fans per usual have eaten it up. Has he ever started a game? I thought he was a back up who saw the field on a limited basis but came on mid season last year and had some TFL’s and sacks. Hope he is just dinged and comes back for the B12 in full health and gets a chance to show his skills. If we lose to Iowa, it will be because we can’t move the ball and out score them.
Bacon was 2nd on the team in tackles last year.

So…. what was going on in the offseason/training camp. This is a crazy amount of injuries before the first game. Especially for expected starters/impact players.

All this is speculation/rumor, but all these guys injured before the first game:
  1. Willich
  2. McClaughlin
  3. Jalen Travis
  4. Brahmer
  5. Surges
  6. Brezina
  7. Hasert
I’m not necessarily saying anything, but just mentioning this is a new strength and conditioning staff.

I think people too easily forget just how great you have to be to make the NFL. It's nearly impossible.

Definitely not saying Caleb can't make it... but it will be a very tough task. Odds are way against it.
It's real easy to watch your team and see a star player and be like "Wow this dude is a stud! Easy NFL player". But there are so many guys exactly like that around the country, we just don't watch every game of theirs.

I think it was Williams who mentioned they tried to turn things up during fall camp this year. A lot more physical than normal. The hope was to avoid the September slump.

I’m going with this until Saturday. We had a handful of guys, coincidentally focused mostly on one position group, that were modestly dinged up. They’d surely be ready in a week, but maybe not with game contact. Those guys were withheld in hopes more bodies would be available on the 7th. Obviously we won’t see all, and almost certainly not Bacon. But hopefully we see more guys in IC. I hope.

Bingo. There’s more backups and 3rd stingers than will play in the NFL on Geogia and Ohio states roster than Iowa States roster.

Teams that recruit well can sustain injuries while we have play 3rd string players who normally would play NAIA or walk ons and it shows.

This why the “recruiting rankings” don’t matter crown is incorrect. You need roster depth with high quality players.

It was widely publicized that they went very physical in training camp this year. Unfortunately guys get banged up doing that.

Ironically this is posted in a thread about a walk on who I think was a 2 star
