Caleb Bacon injury

Perhaps a small stretch, but not super big if you've been listening to the CF staff talk about him this offseason. CW is convinced he'll be a draft pick.
It’s also entirely possible he is a draft pick(I think he will be) but not first team all big 12.

That’s is rose-colored glasses though. He did not look like a draft pick to me at all last year. He really struggled at times, especially in coverage. But still a big loss this year.

They also said Darien Porter would be in the NFL. And I love that guy, but I don’t see NFL there either.

I hope we get some decent news on some of the other many injuries. I don't know if I've ever felt this deflated about injuries after fall/week 1. We are beat up...
There was a Rhoads season where it seemed like we lost 3/5 of our OL between fall camp and in game 1. Other than that though, yeah this has been a bad injury start

He had apparently put a lot of work in this offseason on his body and game. CW predicted he would lead the team in sacks. I don't think it's a stretch to assume he may have been the 4th down lineman as an edge rusher we have all heard so much smoke about.

Mike Rose didn't get drafted (big 12 DPOY). So, that means he must be better than Rose. He's aggressive, but not better than Mike.

I’m pretty sure Mike didn’t get drafted because of his history of injuries.

Jake Hummel has a roster spot with the rams. Jeremiah George had a cup of coffee after being drafted. Neither of those guys were better players than Mike at ISU.

LB recruiting has been a big mystery for this staff. It seems like its a cycle of guys playing a year or two earlier than they should who struggle at first but eventually develop or guys who end up transferring down a level. This year looked like we had some nice youngsters to develop behind two veterans but injuries have changed all that.

Klein had a fantastic NFL career and off of that, I thought Rose (B12 DPOY) would make a roster. Hasn’t happened. Bacon has the physical size & I suppose lateral speed but per usual, he’s been hyped by the media and the fans per usual have eaten it up. Has he ever started a game? I thought he was a back up who saw the field on a limited basis but came on mid season last year and had some TFL’s and sacks. Hope he is just dinged and comes back for the B12 in full health and gets a chance to show his skills. If we lose to Iowa, it will be because we can’t move the ball and out score them.

And TJ Tampa was going to be a 1st round pick too... and ended up going in the 4th round.

It's completely normal to view your own team's players as being better than what they really are. Just need to be self aware of that fact. Like everyone predicting we'd blow North Dakota out by 35+ pts. I recommended everyone to put a large amount of money on ND to cover against us, and then it would be a win-win for you. And some thought I was stupid.

IIRC Bacon was one of the highest if not the highest rated LBs in the B12 per PFF last year. He's a really good LB.

Watch a game and form yoir own opinions. You don’t have to take what you hear on a podcast as gospel. Many of us can see he is a serviceable Big 12 LB but he doesn’t scream NFL to me. Think about the linebackers we have had that didn’t get draft or can barely hang on in the league.

Mike Rose, Marcell Spears, Jeremiah George, Jake Knott, the list goes on……all were better than Bacon imo.

I think people too easily forget just how great you have to be to make the NFL. It's nearly impossible.

Definitely not saying Caleb can't make it... but it will be a very tough task. Odds are way against it.
