Cytown has basketball though. Major boost when there is nothing to do in Iowa but drink and watch otzball
Don't forget about WBB, VB, and my favorite Wrestling. I can see CyTown being a draw during the winter sports season... Plus when JP builds a Baseball Stadium east of the new bridge and brings back Baseball then they can build a statue for him and CyTown can be like St. Louis's Ballpark Village in the Spring. Some say I'm a dreamer ;)

Mens BB, Womens BB, Volleyball, Wrestling, Gymnastics, etc all along with FB. All of which will probably utilize the space more than on a FB gameday, because of the weather, crowds, tailgating etc. People will more likely go to the bar/restaurant before after a BB game than a FB game is my feeling.

People sometimes forget that this area is not just FB.

There is going to be a lot more days with activity there than people realize.

Still yet to be seen how everything works out, but the amount of activity there I am sure helps.

Boy that would be a fun job on a day like today.
Know what’s more fun?

Friday the first layer was pristine, ready to roll.

Sunday the crew landscaping came in and dumped what I assume is amended soil all over lot, as they put down base soil in the medians and islands.

This morning—clearly the paving crew—went through clearing all the detritus off, so there was a clean surface for tomorrow. Then blocked off the lot so none could get it up and mess it up again. Presumably finishing first thing tomorrow.

Now, look at this guy:

And it’s not just game days. Conventions, families on visit weekends, just people in Ames.

And it’s going to offer a third nightlife option. Back in the day,”student” meant “Campustown”, “more jaded student” meant “Whiskey River downtown”, and “young adult/adult” meant “downtown except when students are gone”.

Now there’ll be another option, literally in the middle—with better parking than much of downtown.

And presumably live bands in the bandshell.

Based on this thread they could call it Crabby's Coffee. Old people will tell you about how all this new development is bad for Ames and yell at you as you order something other than black coffee.
Carmel macchiato, grande, skinny, light ice extra shot of espresso, 4 pumps of syrup, extra caramel drizzle, ez on whipped topping…

Last time I had a Starbucks was on my birthday six months ago. I prefer the Starbucks in Nevada.

You’re thinking in the wrong paradigm.

It’s only tailgating lots seven or so Saturdays a year.
Yeah, is concrete easier for ice and snow; commuter lots, MBB. WBB, volleyball etc.??

Nah, as long as everything is shut down and quiet by 8:30pm, we will be good.

For those of you who are out nothing on this development, why the negativity? Especially since it hasn’t hardly even begun developing.

I'm a cautious person by nature and this project from the beginning was way more risk than I was comfortable with. I've also seen too many developments similar to this fail and fail hard. I applaud Jamie for making this happen, and I hope (really really hope) that it succeeds. He's paid way more than me to figure this stuff out and has earned the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not sure that any of us are "out nothing" on this. It's a financial gamble and could make/break the AD budget for years to come.

I try to refrain from negatively commenting on these things until there's some concrete reason. For now, for my part, it's just fear of this being a total flop.

If it flops we can just turn it into a retirement community.

Access to medical care and entertainment within walking distance right there at the Iowa State Campus.

Heck. I'm ready to buy a condo and start the retirement now.
