This was probably far enough back that days were counted instead of hours for schools. Why even have them go then?
Wish they had taken advantage of the infrastructure setup during Covid to have a way to do school from home rather than cancel class for weather.
To those wondering what constitutes as a "school day" on early release days for Iowa:
12.1(9) Minimum school day. A school day shall consist of a minimum of 5½ hours of instructional time for all grades 1 through 12. The minimum hours shall be exclusive of the lunch period. Passing time between classes as well as time spent on parent-teacher conferences may be counted as part of the 5½-hour requirement. The school or school district may record a day of school with less than the minimum instructional hours if emergency health or safety factors require the late arrival or early dismissal of students on a specific day; or if the total hours of instructional time for all grades 1 through 12 in any five consecutive school days equal a minimum of 27½ hours, even though any one day of school is less than the minimum instructional hours because staff development is provided for the instructional professional staff or because parent-teacher conferences have been scheduled beyond the regular school day.

Was explaining to the 5 year old how my elementary school did not have AC.
We'd stew in our own juices while trying to hear the teacher over the industrial fan. He looked at me like I was insane.

Did they ask why you didn’t just turn up the volume on your Chromebook to hear the teacher?

They do need a good editor. Bolded text is one sentence. A nice bullet list would be helpful here.To those wondering what constitutes as a "school day" on early release days for Iowa:

Doesn't quite beat my record. I went to the OG Novak Elementary at Linn-Mar. Did not have A/C, old brick three story building. Insanely hot on the top floor where I was at this point. School started at 8:45 and at 8:50 they announced a dismissal at 9:15. They knew they were going to do it to get the day to count so the busses did not even leave.
So they can count the hours and it counts as a day. Nothing like having your administration gaming the rules.
I was surprised by this. Nothing like eating lunch before 11am.
