The tales of the athletes getting to "know each other" in the Olympic Village are pretty well known. Lets just say when they are done competing they like to let loose.

most of the track and field (especially the field) events traditionally have military applications. without researching, it's easy to assume pole vaulting has something to do with that.

There are probably also some athletes who decide that their best bet to get on a team is to go an alternate route.

I thought I heard that Sweden agreed to let him pole vault and use his parents as coaches and I bet the US didn’t allow it?

There doesnt seem to be many examples of china, Russia, France etc having people living, working, voting in their countries and playing for us with dual citizenship. But who knows. Probably because it’s harder I guess
