As a very casual soccer fan, I'm trying to get into it, but they won't let me. At least the women are fun to watch.
Morocco definitely better today, but this is still a success for US soccer. We didn't even qualify for 4 of the 5 prior games and it's only the 2nd time we've made it out of the group state since the Olympics became a U23 tournament in 1992.
Some teams definitely gear up to win this more than others as well. If we really wanted to win, I would not think 3 MLS lifers would be our choices for the 3 overage slots. The other thing that most teams deal with is all the age eligible guys who could participate, but are already senior regulars. For us that'd be Scally, Musah, Reyna, Cardoso, Tillman, Pepi and Balogun.
Morocco definitely had basicially their best crop of U23 eligible players. 37 full international caps in the starting lineup excluding the overage players. Plus Achraf Hakimi, who absolutely wrecked us, as an overage player who is a full time starter at PSG and one of the best players in the world.
With us hosting in 2028, it'll be interesting to see that squad in 4 years. I'd imagine we'd try and load it up as much as is possible to go for a medal on home soil

When you said Morocco, did ISU have a young lady run 400 meter hurdles in the Olympics for them? Not in this Olympics, like 20 years ago?
Nasal El Moutawakil, ran track at ISU in the 1980’s, from Morocco. In the 1984 Olympics she won Gold in the 400 meter hurdles. She was the first person from an Islamic Country. And the first person from Morocco to win Gold.
Danny Harris from ISU won silver in the men’s 400 meter hurdles that same year.
Harris was a football recruit. With his initial times as a freshman in the 400 hurdles, it was clear that he might be the one to snap Edwin Moses’ years-long winning streak—which was probably the biggest news in track at that time.
I think he was the one to do it, not long before the 1984 Olympics, but finished 2nd to him there.
Nawal El Moutawakel was petite, but obviously fast. I remember her in the Beyer weight room doing situps on the Universal machines—with the board at the steepest incline—quickly—as if running the hurdles.

She's not eligible, you have to play in 3x3 events and get ranking points.
Watching USA vs South Sudan and I’m genuinely curious why they don’t keep a ribbon at the bottom of the screen showing the normal score, time, shot clock, etc. it’s just random pop ups every few minutes.
Getting nervous for the USWNT. Dominating most possession, but they are giving up some really good looks to Japan, and not creating many high quality looks for themselves.
