It helps that HOTD has great source material to work off of all the way to the end.Better yes, but still too much bad decision making all around by leaders of both sides. Also feels like the Blacks are going to get bailed out by deus ex machina when it comes to getting more dragons.
As an avid GOT fan (read all 5 books and show) the biggest disappointment wasn’t so much what happened with the story, but the execution. The showrunners were too busy trying to get to Star Wars (which they didn’t even end up doing) to dedicate the proper time to GOT.
First the last two seasons should have been 12 eps each and there should have been another entire season too. Season 8 should have been the lead up and entire battle between white walkers and the realm. This was a battle than had been prophecied for centuries for all of mankind. This should have been epic, across multiple eps, locations, with real stakes.
Instead it all takes place in one episode, in one location, that was hard to see cause it was so dark, and no one of consequence died (only Jorah and Theon in a bizarre sequence).
Then Dany’s heelturn should have encompassed the following 9th season and that should have been the show’s last. I didn’t mind that direction, but you can’t heel turn a beloved character like that in 3 episodes. That needs to be built up and her motivations need to be more ingrained. Instead it was really forced and left a bad taste in the audience’s mouth.
