House of the Dragon

Better yes, but still too much bad decision making all around by leaders of both sides. Also feels like the Blacks are going to get bailed out by deus ex machina when it comes to getting more dragons.
It helps that HOTD has great source material to work off of all the way to the end.

As an avid GOT fan (read all 5 books and show) the biggest disappointment wasn’t so much what happened with the story, but the execution. The showrunners were too busy trying to get to Star Wars (which they didn’t even end up doing) to dedicate the proper time to GOT.

First the last two seasons should have been 12 eps each and there should have been another entire season too. Season 8 should have been the lead up and entire battle between white walkers and the realm. This was a battle than had been prophecied for centuries for all of mankind. This should have been epic, across multiple eps, locations, with real stakes.

Instead it all takes place in one episode, in one location, that was hard to see cause it was so dark, and no one of consequence died (only Jorah and Theon in a bizarre sequence).

Then Dany’s heelturn should have encompassed the following 9th season and that should have been the show’s last. I didn’t mind that direction, but you can’t heel turn a beloved character like that in 3 episodes. That needs to be built up and her motivations need to be more ingrained. Instead it was really forced and left a bad taste in the audience’s mouth.

How so? I think what we're learning is that the dragons choose the riders. GOT universe dragon lore is fascinating, and GRRM promises to weigh in on dragon lore in The Winds of Winter, which I'm sure is coming soon.

Vermithor!!!!!

Another 12/10 episode
Interesting take. Glad you liked it and would love to hear why to give it that kind of score. I liked that scene and of course the last scene to end the episode, but I would be lying if I said I haven’t been falling asleep the last couple of episodes. The dialogue is getting really rough and this Harrenhall storyline needs to pick up pace because holy **** is it a yawn fest. Just my opinion.

The last 20 minutes was amazing this week.

I also enjoyed watching Grover Tully go from a little princeling to a full-fledged, badass Lord over the matter of minutes. It was cool to see him gain confidence with every word he spoke.

I am hoping like hell they have saved everything up for a big finish. The ending of the episode was indeed really fun and got back business. So I hope they capitalize off of it. Because for me a great last 15 minutes didn’t save the majority of the episode.

Appreciate your thoughts and feelings on Tully. It’s fun and what I love about movies and shows. Two people having completely different thoughts. To me that scene was forced and way too obvious/quickly done to make Tully turn into what he did. I just find Daemon’s character and everything happening with him this season to be very stale and boring.

Here’s to a big finish because overall this season has been really solid aside from the last two episodes.

Yep last 20 minutes was good. Prior to that thought it was just ok. Think it is setting up for a doozie next week though.

Anyone else feel like it's a little reckless for Rhaenyra to just trust a bunch of randos with dragons? Like how does she know they would be loyal?

I'm guessing the answer to that is a major spoiler that I've tried to avoid. Just enjoying them as they come out on Sunday nights!

Really sad next week is likely the end of GOT/HOTD until late 2025..

I was absolutely rolling when Vermithor went ham on his potential riders for 5 minutes.
Got two riders out of the 50 applicants - much success.

I'm rewatching GOT with my lady friend right now too and there's a scene where Geoffrey tells of the fate of Ranearya in S3. I didn't need that Easter egg yesterday.

She is desperate and looking for any kind of advantage she can muster. She knows Vhaegar alone puts the advantage on the greens side, and she is not getting great support from Daemon or her small council. Her son is acting like a little twerp lately too. I also feel like she promised these people something. Land, titles etc. They have all been oppressed by Aegon/Aemund and the Greens, too, so they would be more inclined to side with Rhaenyra imo.

How bad is Larys as master of whispers? Boats are showing up with food, boats again show up to recruit dissident blondes, and the only woman wearing red in the whole city apparently is unknown.
His conversation with that other guy (I can't remember his name) made it seem like he is not in full support of Aemond. But yeah surprised they were able to get all those people out. And I did have to chuckle at her choice of dress. Definitely not a good way to stay unnoticed lol
