***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Advanced college bat with positional questions is Jed's kink...
Gotta like his upside as a hitter with slug. And even-up walk/strike-out rate is refreshing for many young hitters. Some evaluators project 30+ HR guy if he becomes more fly ball hitter.

Position wise it would be great if he can stick at 3rd. But by the time he's major league ready the contracts of Happ & Suzuki lapse (2027). Having stud fielders is great, but sometimes I feel Cub fans put too much focus on glove vs. bat.

Lopez has been a nice pickup so far
Yea he has worked himself into getting high leverage outs. I had forgotten that he was the Orioles All-Star closer a couple years ago.

Keep Porter Hodge more of a 6th/7th inning guy. Use Miller, Leiter, Lopez & Neris in 8th/9th.

Not sure when everyone returns but I have this as our likely 8 relievers down the stretch unless we add a lefty.
Wesneski
Brown unknown
Merryweather at Iowa
Smyly
Miller
Lopez
Alzolay threw Tauchman Live PB
Leiter
Neris
(Almonte had season ending surgery)
Biggest problem i see is i don't believe any of them have options to swap out fresh arms.

Second round pick was Cole Mathis. Sounds like a very high level bat that’s expected to translate but the defense and speed are non-existent

We've had so many injuries this year that I completely forgot Tauchman exists.

I'm ok with staying put at the deadline. If we can tread water for the rest of July into early August the schedule really opens up towards September.

I know we have lots of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and we have teams like Detroit, Oakland, Miami, Washington, Sox, and Colorado left down the stretch.
