4th start since Weneski has re-entered the rotation

1 - 3 runs on 2 hits in 4 innings
2 - 5 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings
3 - 0 runs on 1 hit in 6 innings
4 - 11 runs on 10 hits in 4 innings

Unfortunately he wasn't great out of the bullpen, either.

You can solidify a pretty ******* solid bullpen if you have 5 guys in a starting rotation you can trust will consistently compete for your team 6-7 innings. Maybe he needs to be on the block.

Right now I'd put him 8th as potential starters when everyone is back.
Steele
Imanaga
Taillon
Hendricks, I know but he's in until he plays his way out.
Assad / Brown toss-up

Wes dropping that turd when we needed composure was not great. Obviously there are going to be days where you just don't have great command but deciding to throw to 2nd, throwing it into the outfield, committing a 2nd error, and then hitting a guy batting .220 with the based loaded and 2 strikes was all just terrible mentality stuff. Hoping we can get right for game 2 and end up taking 3 of 4. Sheesh.

Now Assad being the 27th man makes sense. Palencia just recalled for Roberts. ( wished they'd reversed that) but they can keep Assad off the roster till his next start and keep an additional receiver. Hopefully Merryweather is good to go after the break and can replace Palencia.

While yesterday sucked, I still don’t think this is a quality team and would like to sell at this deadline.

That being said, what the **** is Morel still doing in Chicago? I’m not sure he starts for any other team in the league. Dude has a chance to end the game in the 4th inning and grounds into a double play. Has a chance to extend the game in the 9th and is swinging at pitches out of the zone. He’s unreliable defensively. Get him off the ******* team.

I was really hoping they’d pinch hit for him in the 9th.

A win today still gets you a 5-2 trip.

I'm firmly in the 'stand pat' camp. You don't have guys that are going to bring back a ton anyway and mid-level MiLB guys aren't even really going to get a shot with how loaded the farm is.

Stay where you are and see if getting healthy gets this team to where it was in April/early May.

Leadoff double for Happ followed by a first pitch weak grounder by Morel to the left side so Happ can’t advance.

Dude can not be on this roster one more day. Terrible.

A 4-3 roadtrip normally would be a good thing, but going 1-3 against the Cards hurts. Getting to the point where Cubs need to win series against NL teams ahead of them in the standings. Going 2-2 would at least be treading water.

I struggle with MLB trade deadline being so black (seller) & white (buyer). IMO the Cubs should should be selling to build a better roster for August/September & 2025. Hopefully, that results in a playoff run. But if not the moves start to fill gaps in the 2025 roster. That said, it would help A LOT if guys would stop getting injured!!!

Wow, keeping that in over this streak must of been really eating you up.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I was making a comment as the Cubs were giving up a nine run first inning. No more, no less.

Cubs nab Cam Smith with their first round draft pick. 21 year old 3B with potential to move to corner outfielder. 30 HR potential, really good glove. Might move to outfield because of his height.

My guess is he’s Jed’s 2026 option if whatever experiment he tries in 2025 at 3B doesn’t work out
