***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

It's always got to be something. Little leaves with an injury. I Cubs box shows Killian and Merryweather each threw an inning combined 5 H and a walk. Roberts hasn't thrown in the past 3 days for Iowa. So if Assad is starting tomorrow my guess is Assad takes Little 's spot and Roberts gets the extra for the DH.

Yeah I hope that Little injury isn't too serious. At least the break is coming up.

Listening to Pat’s reaction on the radio and then seeing the clip, I’m gonna guess we don’t see Luke the rest of the season. Glad to see the reports that it is his shoulder and not his elbow, but the way he looked while leaving the mound looked like someone that knew something bad just happened.

Really really sucks for him and the team as he was really turning into a reliable guy. Also leaves us with just Smyly (yikes) for lefties out of the pen for now

Thinking we're buyers so guessing we add a salary dump lefty Hopefully only giving up guys that we'd lose at the end of the year because of needing but not getting spots on the 40.

I don't think there's any doubting that not re-signing Bryant, Rizzo and Baez was the right move. They have been horrible. I think the larger point was that Jed and Theo held on for too long when it was apparent that team was flawed. They waited until they were at the worst possible point for leverage to deal them
Sure, looking back it's easy to see, but all 3 were still relatively young and the fanbase would've been outraged if they had been traded a year earlier. I'm actually still shocked how quickly Baez and KB fell off.

Man, our pitching is looking good right now and it only appears to get better in the near future.

Rotation
Steele
Imanaga
Taillon
Hendricks
Assad
Brown
Wesneski
Wicks probably going to Iowa when healthy

So rest of the pen probably shapes like this.
Leiter Jr.
Lopez
Merryweather when back poor outing last night
Miller
Neris
Smyly
Only problem is these 6 have no options to rotate fresh arms.

I’d expect Wicks and Assad to both be in the bullpen soon enough.

When you have two pitchers that require, at minimum, a combined 8 innings of relief every time they start, you’re essentially demanding Steele/Taillon/Imanaga be able to go at least 7 without taxing your bullpen.

Get them in the bullpen where they can be rocks that throw 2 quality innings every 2-3 days.

A split would be good enough this week. 3-1 and we’re not in a bad spot at all going into the ASB. Sucks that Belli will be out for awhile but this series showed the bats have the ability to get the job done and our starting pitching is just unreal right now.

Dansby looks like he’s starting to figure it out at the plate which would be a huge boost as well as Seiya getting hot again. Michael Busch is starting to look like a steal. Him and Shota would be right there for NL rookie of the year if it weren’t for that Skenes fella.

Mastrobuoni doesn’t provide much with the bat but he has been unreal at third the past few games.

I’m happy again. Baseball is fun when the Cubs are fun
Mastro bas been getting on base consistently.

Not sure if the article was from a good source, but stated that both Wicks and Browns rehabs were not progressing. Didn't sound like either would be playing for Cubs in July and could be longer.
