Do you wash your meat?

I'm not really sure what people think water without soap is going to accomplish that heating it to proper temp in a like 500 degree grill isn't going to.

I have had this conversation, in great detail, with an anonymous member of my household. And yet, I am still required to run the grill grates through the dishwasher before cooking. Don’t go bringing science in to this.

So your wife doesnt understand how high temps will kill any bacteria?

I know a lot of people pat it dry if they’re going on a flat top or cast iron pan, but have only heard of a few people that rinse. Doesn’t seem like it would provide any tangible benefit for safety, cooking time, end result, etc.

Rinsing meat is not recommended and is not safe. It only helps to spread bacteria into the sink.

Yeah, I always wash my meat. Concerned about smegma built up.
If you meat has an odor to it, like they always say, “When in doubt, throw it out.”

They are brothers.

Yeah washing it in the sink just gets bacteria all over your sink and probably improves your chances of sickness.

This was the impetus for conventional wisdom shifting away from washing. Rinsing meat does little good to the meat itself, and increases contamination risk in the sink and nearby counter area. Not good if that is also where you wash veggies.
